I think people are failing to realize that this is not a contest. Maybe it's the fact that money is involved, and that is what makes people feel like they should be judging each site against each other. The truth of the matter is that many of these sites (not all) are expressions in one form or another, and would be better compared against the body of work from the original author. Like i've said many times, the disparity of sites is one of the things i like about this site because it is an honest...
representation of the community. We aren't here to tell you what to look at, we are here to show others what we have made and hopefully create an atmosphere that allows YTMND to expand (peacefully) in to other realms of content. Despite what YOU believe the site is about, I believe it is about something else, I believe it is about creativity. And although you may argue that these sites are not creative, I would argue that, if nothing else, they create an atmosphere for creativity by showing likeminded...
people who are willing to take flack for what they have created. This, to me, is a prerequisite for the creative process. Although, to be honest, the flack we have recieved (and will continue to recieve, until the site moves off sponsorship) is riddled with ridiculous assumptions and pretenses about not only the character of our sites, but the character of their creators. And as much as i would love to dialouge about why my site sucks so much ass, there is no starting point when the criticisms are...
I like that this changes every day but... I dont see the exact point... I mean it's good to see different stuff everyday on here because everyday I come on it always looks the same except for the hive. Some of them are good, some are just... what..?! and some are feh.. but I love the idea behind it. +4 for good ones, -4 for bad ones, +5 for awesome idea and consistancy.
I'd say the regular changes in style are a part of what makes this site for me. I hated yesterday's one, for example, but I never considered changing my vote to a 1. I'm 5ing the concept behind this, which is to get some exposure for a lot of guys who don't get the attention they deserve. If I can't stand one or two of the sites that get used, well, that's inevitable. Compared to all of these guys who hate them all, I'm getting off pretty lightly.
1) Trying to be ominous and secretive with some kind of odd hidden messages. Roy4l wannabe?! 2) Self sponsoring -_- There are better things you can use your money for .. 3) Chaning the content of the self-spondered page so that all of your "ub3r workz" get listed on the sponsered page . . . - These are three reasons why you're getting a 1 and making me f*cking sick.
