I think you forgot to include the reason they keep getting members. Celebrities, people like Tom Cruise, people with a very high income who can afford Scientology who keep their reputation up. People they protect for that reason and that reason only.

Cidsa, I think you are taking me out of context here… I was making the point that in order to look more persuasive you need to look impartial. Yes she was brainwashed although we can argue whose fault it is for her being brain washed (her's for being stupid or the church for unethical conduct) it doesn't matter as long as you put both sides into a persuasive presentation.
Incidentally, they don't just get away using scare tactics and a legal team - they also capitalize on pop culture/fad status (think similar to Kabbalah), anti-Christianity sentiment, mass-media exploitation, and "ridicule offense" of mocking/discrediting/demonizing anyone that talks ill of them (similar to the smug, self-righteous attitudes far-left/far-right political groups have).
The CoS claimed he was an outsider looking for work. (they lied) He worked as a janitor, a staff-only position, and lived in the estate, which was only open to Sea Org members and ASI employees. According to church officials, Rodney had undergone prior psychological counseling for depression. (they lied) His family and friends were not aware of any such treatment. Rodney had a tearful conversation with his mother before he died. (they lied) His mother recalls no such conversation.
