i think this is interesting as trivia, if only because it does seem counterintuitive. another thing to note is that religious states have a penchant for slaughtering OTHER people groups, whereas secular states tend to just slaughter their own. i think every atheist should should ask him/herself where "inalienable human rights" can come from, if not from some divine authority. i'm an agnostic, and i don't know how to answer that question to my satisfaction.
