Also, if we could get an ultra-powerful telescope on the far end of the universe in the distant future, we might be able to zoom in on earth to view scenes from the past. This is because the light takes so many years to reach the far ends of universe that it could be light from thousands or millions of years ago.
and roc, i dont think that would work, that defy's physics. If you were to go that far in space, then by the time you looked back you would be looking back at the time that you had pretty much left at...therefore you wouldn't be able to see the past, unless there were means by which we could travel that far in such a small matter of time. Who knows if that will ever happen though.
roq: in order to view images from that long ago, the telescope would have to be traveling many times the speed of light, and probably be a retarded distance away to catch light from that long ago. If you wanted to see an image from yesterday, imagine how far that light traveled in 24 hours, thats where the telescope would have to be.
People who think the universe is 6,000 years old can not be reasoned with. Please stop wasting your time. They rationalize away all scientific proof with some ridiculous explanation that fits their outdated perceptions. I've had people tell me that dinosaur bones were either put there by teh devil to make us doubt, or they were left over from another planet that god used as spare parts when he made this one. Seriously.

to roq: evolution can be proved on earth, there are mountains of evidence to support it and more is mounting every day especially with the completion of the genome project... not to mention that, of the things that we could use a catalogue of human history for, proving evolution would be way down on the list. Besides, we're just one of... who knows how many. Heliocentricity is the worst of human flaws.
Also, to answer MasterSitsu... this is new to most of these people. I think some people were surprised to see a picture of earth from space for the first time, let alone the rest. What about the theories that the outer bounds of space don't go on to infiniti but loop back in on themselves... so if you go in a straight line you end up back where you were... Or if you looked far enough you can see Earth xbillion years ago (theoretical and, as such, no actual measurement)... I bet that's all new too. Urine is sterile. You can drink it.

It's funny...we could be discovering/categorizing/colonizing entire solar systems every day and still not run out of them for billions upon billions of years. One always wonders though....do galaxies go on *forever*? What's at the edge of everything? What happens when you go past every galaxy there is and reach "the end?" Is there some huge black hole wall or something? Is it just empty space? What?
Also, call me a conspiracy theorist but with that many planets, the chances of at least one, somewhere, not having some type of life is amazingly small. I wouldn't be surprised if there were literally hundreds of planets, maybe thousands or more, with as much or more life than Earth's, possibly more advanced even. Maybe there are even other planets with humans on them much like ourselves?
