Ancient canard, easily refuted.

Not only is the sound highly annoying, you're using old and disproven "tests" like how the eye is so complex that it must be made by God (oversimplify much?) Here is the link if you actually care. http://atheism.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/ce/3/part8.html

Yeah, do you listen to any refutations ever, or do you just stick your fingers in your ears and yell?

your questions are ridiculous, most things you said are completely irrevelent, and everything you said was absolutely biased and easily refuted, as said earlier. i used to be christian until i realized how dumb it was.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
ok, where do i start? Sure, I agree we don't have ample knowledge to say "there is no god" but thats also goes for the statement "there is a god" And any evidence there is for a God in no way in evidence that Jesus is God or that Christianity is right. Agnosticism, ftw. I'll give you a 2 for the effort though.

Your argument is elegant, but I will 1 any political or evangelical YTMNDs. This is not a place for your petty arguments. BTW, I'm quite agnostic already thank you.

Could've been done better. Try using the mouse trap theory. Without one piece of a mouse trap, it doesn't work at all and the chances of it forming through evolution is impossible...and there are 8 pieces to this trap. For blood coagulation to have evolved, which requires hundreds of different chemicals at once, is impossible...just like the mouse trap.

Here's a quiz for you: are you a)a creepy religious nut, b)a sheep who still has an imaginary friend, c)under-educated & over-opinionated, or d) all of the above. And here's a bonus hint: THE ANSWER IS D!!!!

Atheism> Religion. You Failed.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
you fail. you sponsor you're own site, it's too long, it insults anyone with half a brain, and you don't let in for other arguments. Atheism is a choice that people make. Do you see Atheists on the street openly imposting on people to become an Atheist? No, because most Atheists respect the choices of others. I find that a large amount of Christians feel compelled to impose their religion on others. How 'bout they let people think for themselves and drop it. You fail at controversy, good day.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
peterguy, you are an atheist about 99.9 % of all gods that ever were written about, whether ancient Greek or Eypytian or the more known modern ones. Only a complete douchebag considers flaws of evolutionary theory to thus be proof of the Christian God.

I must applaud you for putting something like this on probably one of the cruelest websites on the internet. Also, DarkElf: STFU.

ur a tard posting this on this site...evryone has there own opinions yes, but thru almost evry slide of this ytmnd i had an answer negating the one u expected to b correct but only one worth stating. how can u say there IS a god. is not saying there is a god an absolute statement as well? u have no real proof there is one

"If i dont do as god says i'm going to hell. Youare the messenger of god, and god tells you what he wants changed in the world."
August 26th, 2006
(0)
Personally, I believe in God, but I believe that God is too great for one true religion.
August 26th, 2006
(1)
As for the whole hell concept, it's one big contradiction. The Bible says that God loves you, but if you're bad or if you don't believe in Jesus, you'll go to hell. That's like having a mom or dad who loves you very much, yet if you don't eat your vegetables or clean your room, he/she will kill you. It's senseless.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
Also, personally, I believe in a God that loves you unconditionally. Giving God negative emotions such as anger, jealousy, avarice, and vengeance makes God seem weak and human.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
Plus, I don't believe that it's fair that people in remote parts of the world who have never heard of Jesus have to go to hell, anyway. That's illogical, and it doesn't make any sense.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
stop forcing your f*cking beliefs
August 26th, 2006

Of course, most Christians will combat these arguments with Bible quotes, but they don't realize that there are 26 different versions of the Bible, and that the Bible has been altered too many times throughout history to be trusted. Besides the Bible, there's nothing else to prove that hell exists.
August 26th, 2006
(0)
Adding to my previous post, most Christians will argue that the King James Bible is the only true Bible, even though the King James Bible wasn't published until Shakespeare's time.

lack of proof is not proof. while no one can prove god does or does not exist, assuming "a creator" does exist because our intellect isn't capable of explaining the majority of the known universe or reality is just as absurd as saying there is no gold in china. also, this ytmnd is way too f*cking long and serious. go away.
(0)
wow. that was just pure idiocy. because someone created a coke can, god exists. how about all the other foods that don't naturally fit into a human mouth, dipsh*t?
August 26th, 2006

I was with you until you went off on Christianity being the only true path to God. Me? I believe in God, but I certainly don't believe in the shortsighted, self-righteous crap you're spewing. 2 for effort.

Coca cola cans don't sexually reproduce, dumbass. The "complex things must have a creator" is not a valid argument against evolution. You're trying to use broken logic to justify beliefs you already had. Please stop.

you have strong evidence of a higher power (though i am still anatheist), but even if there is a god, there is no proof that the biblical interpretation of god is the true one. Oranges example fails: If you drop all those oranges they probable won't make rows, but there are billions of planets with no intelligent life. why? the oranges didn't line up for those billion, but it did for earth.

Also one of my freinds in college (studying to be a historian) has found that hell was a place were they burend trash in jurusealem. In later versions of the bible (medievel time) they encorperated this in to better control the peasents from revolting against there horiable living conditions. and, nobody is going to change there ideas of big things over a ytmnd so pls stop trying

Being a smart man I will say this: I am sure there is a god of some form because it isn't possible otherwise. However, what form that god takes is not certain in any way/shape/form. thirdly you never read the bible, hell is destroied in revalation, no one burns according to chrisian faith.

Suck my Panthiest Athiest balls. Evolution occurs do to COMPLEX LIVING ORGANISMS having RANDOM GENETIC MUTATION which is spread to the population if it better suits the environment. Trying to justify the existance of something by saying "there isnt enough knowledge yet" is mute, because you still cant prove it! You cant say something exists because you cant disprove it!

Sponsoring your own ytmnd doesn't make it any good. Sure it seems like you put a lot of work into it it seems. But you make an arguement so I have to judge on the argument. The coca cola can is shaped as it is because humans made it. God made the aluminum and we had to look for it, mine it(Actually I have no idea how we get aluminum) take the raw aluminum and shape it into a can that hey! holy sh*t, something we made is perfect for our use! Praise the lord!
August 27th, 2006

You know whats funny about conservative christians trying to use science to "prove" there is a god? They do it all wrong. Scientist use facts and try to find a supporting conclusion. The blind religious use conclusions and try to find supporting fact.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
I'm giving you a 5 just for having the balls to put this up here. I can only imagine the hilarity that would ensue if someone put up a pro-Scientology pamphlet on YTMND!
August 27th, 2006

That all said, I'll admit the entire message of Christianity is unappealing to me. If people are too sinful to go to heaven, then they don't *deserve* to go to heaven and shouldn't, regardless if they believe in Christ or not.

Nobody can be sure of ANYTHING, its about belief, you pick an explanation and go with it, we do this all the time. I consider myself an atheist because I think its failry obvious that all religion is created by man to make life easier, and not because its true, the lack of evidence of religeon and the fear of death in man point to this. I could just as easily tell someone that I was God and offer no evidence. I dont consider myself agnostic because even though I cant know for sure, Im all but sure.

Do you know of any god that didn't have a creator? Yes / No
August 27th, 2006

you make a good point about gold in china but that point would imply that the burden of proof is on you to prove that there is a god. Otherwise I could also make the same claim about a flying spagetti monster.
August 27th, 2006

I gots a few things to say to the whole idea of creationism and evolutionism. First of all, yes, the odds are very slim we'd be created by pure chance. About as slim as we'd be created in some other way to suit the universe's conditions. It's not merely a "Oh, this happened by pure chance" more of a "This sequence happened which lead to the outcome". We can look at it this way, lay out a deck of cards, seperated into 2 choices each, making it seem like a tree, having a piece of string connect to another---
August 27th, 2006

Wrong, stupid, and worst of all, the cardinal sin... boring as hell.
August 27th, 2006

Furthermore, it is downright absurd to suggest that an all powerful being created the universe 12 Billion years ago, sat around doing nothing for the next 7.5 Billion years until the creation of the Earth, took a little 4.4 Billion year vacation after that, in which he created man.

of 2 cards. Your friend knows which 2, then asks you to pick one of them from behind his back. Whichever one you pick, place it back to it's original position, and move onto the next set of 2, until you run out of sets. You now have a single card at the very end, with an actual 1/52 chance you would chose it. YET, it doesn't matter what card you picked in the end cause you didn't know what you were looking for. The chance that we developed eyes were low, but that's not to say we couldn't develop some--

lawl, so many flaws. let me go into more detail. electrons in atoms are completely random and it is unknowable of their position and velocity. you're argument that the "atom to the universe is ordered" is false. then, you're argument that since atheists "dont know" if there is a god they are agnostics applies to christians too. they dont it either. hence everyone is agnostic, whoohoo. finally, you're a f*cktard.
August 27th, 2006

That was an amazing waste of time
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Ok. Where to start? First off, the only church I've seen try to farm believers more than Christianity is Scientology, and that is saying something. Second, What is it with Christians and trying to convert everyone? I'm atheist, proud of it, but not because it goes against your beliefs. I'm proud because it's my belief. Just like gay people are proud to be gay because it's part of who they are, not because it brings discomfort to everyone around them.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
I'd be most any religion besides christian. CHRISTAINS HATE EVERY OTHER RELIGION. Heh. And besides, you sponsor'd yer own site to "Spread the word". Just not right. I thought this one might actually be good, it's just a "lol, god does exist, i can prove that he doesnt not exist, lol"
August 27th, 2006

And my card analogy was encorperating that the universe happened to be created in this way, thus we all adapted to it. Didn't notice til now that I left out that part.

I love the fact that you flame people for beliefs, yet your whole arguement, and religion, is based on faith and belief. Awesome hypocracy.
August 27th, 2006

A; please stop sponsoring your own sites just to get attention. B; you have too much hubris. you're convinced you're right with no proof, yet you claim that the other side is wrong and you're right, when both have the same problem. Grow up and use your head.

August 27th, 2006

So we should become religious out of fear? That is the point you are obviously trying to make at the end. Life is too bizarre for us to think that we have it all figured out, and you should have just left it at that. Stop pushing your views on others like a c*cky f*ck and go to sleep. You have church tomorrow. YTMND does need the money though. Good on you for that!
August 27th, 2006

I could tell from the title that this was gonna be a PeterGuy site. I didn't bother watching it (no offense) but as a fellow donater to YTMND I will 5 you.

Well I am trying to vote 5 but for some reason it wont let me vote at all....
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me of his final arguement, that we should believe out of fear. Oldest christian arguement ever, and the biggest converter. Lol @ cowards. 2 things to that arguement. 1. I know, rather, I believe enough not to fear hell. 2. If I'm wrong, I'm going to hell if I convert or not. Integrity ftw.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Logical fallacies or no, at least you're giving cash to YTMND. But the bannana theory you've given can also be explained by co-adaptive evoluationary traits, where a plant that finds a successfull way to attract pollinators does better than others...Plus, trying to prove faith via factual evidence is a bit counter-productive. :)
August 27th, 2006

What max said.
August 27th, 2006

you know, in a sense the command banana that you buy in the store today is designed by humans. In fact, they have been cross breed so much over time that they cannot reproduce on their own anymore, they are all basically clones of the same plant putting them in danger of going extinct. A "wild" plantain is not so "well designed" for human consumption (tends to be smaller, harder to peel and have seeds).
August 27th, 2006
(0)
Horrible logic and analogies. I won't waste time refuting everything you said but the most glaring hole I should point out is that you distinguish between an atheist and agnostic as though they were 2 mutually exclusive categories. An atheist is anyone who lacks belief in god. An agnostic believes they cannot know whether or not god exists, therefore lacks a belief in god. An atheist is to an agnostic as a quadrilateral is to a square. You are referring to strong atheism.

It should be noted that the Banana we're used to, the Cavendish, is a special dessert banana that is bred specifically to be eaten. It is genetically "too perfect" and would die off if it weren't for human domestication. "Natural" bananas are actually hard, terrible tasting and have huge seeds.. not really the type for human eating.. they also have a reddish-brown peel when they're ripe. So the only you proved is that humans have created their own perfect fruit by evolutionary change, way to go.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
It was fine until you said mention "perhaps your love for sin is clouding your judgement". Religion is not a prerequisite for morality, it's unfortunate that you had to include that mistake. Then you go on to threaten people with hell if they are not "100% certain of god". Yeah, using scare tactics is a great way to prove your point... lmao, need I continue?

YTMND is not your personal forum for religious beliefs. Suck a c*ck.
August 27th, 2006

What I find interesting is that humans are arrogant enough to believe the universe REALLY was created just for them. It's like telling kids about Santa Claus so they'll behave well. Wouldn't it be magical if we go to this great big heaven so we don't have to fear death anymore? ..or you could accept the fact that we're mortal, and move on with your life. Perhaps you could try helping other people because it makes you feel good instead of believing you'll be rewarded with karma in the afterlife?

Perhaps the most confusing of some people's beliefs is the fact that they assume written words of the bible (easily manipulatable by humans throughout history) are in fact perfectly intact messages from God. Wouldn't you be worried the messages could be perverted by Satan? Ironically, you could all be following Satan's trap, and going to hell by believing the bible.

I think trying to prove or disprove the existence of god through science is incredibly stupid and so is your argument of the oranges. Suppose the oranges fell into any other formation? If we took a snapshot of this formation and thought about what the odds were of it forming exactly to THAT formation, we would still find it astronomical.

Truly though, humans are simply dumb animals. I am, as are you, and everyone else. We have but 5 animal senses to absorb information, and a simple mind to analyze the data. Helen Keller only had the use of 3 senses, she couldn't see colors, but does that mean colors don't exist? How are we to know endless information couldn't be obtained through 10, 100, 1000, million, billion senses? If you believe you can understand the universe and origins of life with 5 senses and a human brain, good for you.

I stopped reading once you took Darwin's quote out of context. In its proper context it is a proper pro-evolution argument. Maybe you should read for yourself instead of blindly following conversative claptrap.

You make a valid point about the possibility of an intelligent designer. Many great minds from Einstein to Leonardo have stated this. Your mistake is in trying to associate religion with spirituality. Religion has for centuries entrapped mankind and pinned us against each other. It has caused corruption and death and still to this day causes hatred. Is this an act of a divine spirit? You had my respect until you told us all we were going to hell for not believing in Jesus. You seem like an intelligent

so I'd suggest you free yourself from their mind control and come to your own decisions on what or who "God" is. Do ever find yourself questioning certain aspects of what they tell you? There is likely a good reason for this. You cannot believe an altered book from 1500 or more years ago, from a time when leaders had to scare their people into believing that the boogyman would get them if they did not listen.

Your "50 oranges" theory is from an entirely wrong standpoint. You say that the universe couldnt have been formed through near impossibility to near impossibility countless times. If you took those fifty oranges and dropped them over and over for eternity, then eventually, they will land in perfect rows, all facing the same way, exactly spaced to the nano-milimeter. Existence has had plenty of time to form, my friend. Eventually, you WILL get every combination of circumstances that are possible.

You dont take into account the incomprehensible amount of times the universe has almost formed, and there are also an infinite amount of parallel universes, we were just very lucky to become what we are. You take it for granted because we HAVE been formed. Your thinking is very small minded.

To Peterguy: Personaly i think that ytmnd just isnt the place for Spiritual/Scientific discussions. But to make a small comment. The fact is we do not know if there is a god or if there isnt...for all we know even the f*cking FSM could be the real god. Humanity is just not at the point in Evoloution where we can know. the YTMND itself did not have any real value to it (not funney, artistic, realy f*cking awesome) so i am going to give it a 2.

Not only are half these disagreements juvenile and upset because someone actually made them think, but the other half are just widely misinformed. Whether it be from misconceptions, fears, or just being ignorant of the truth, it's easier to not care until it's too late. Agnosticism is the same thing as driving without auto insurance, then hurrying to buy insurance after you get in a wreck. It just doesn't work that way, and it's always too late for them to find out.
August 27th, 2006

and for every argument for what happens to people who haven't heard of Jesus, there's the argument for what happens to the same person making the argument, who already knows. Stop trying to customize your beliefs for whatever is most comfortable, and actually think about it.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
and when I say customize your beliefs, I mean don't only choose to believe some parts, then throw away the other parts of a faith. "For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths" ~2nd Timothy 4:3-4. Don't believe only what you've heard, find out for yourself

August 27th, 2006
(0)
Find out for yourself, don't just assume. Go into the history of how original scrolls were written, and even how long some of them were written before the greek culture ever existed. But of course, it's much easier to just find out when it's too late, right?

Logical points, however evolution is real and pretty much proven. People can say it’s a theory, but there is also "germ theory" even though everyone pretty much agrees on germs existing. As for belief in god, it’s a matter of faith. Faith does not equal logic. Creationism is faith, evolution is logic. Feel free to believe creationism, but there is no scientific proof. Can you prove every word in the bible is true? Can you prove Jesus is the son of god? Can you prove that people go to heaven or hell?

The funny thing is, I get more laughs out of the comments then the YTMND itself. For one, whoever states that religion isn't something you should pick and choose is ignorant at best. Faith and religion are personal issues, not communal, so what matters is the personal choice. And I'm oh so afraid of god, drop that arguement already =/. You all just succumb to fear if that's the best you have.

5 for putting hippies and a big rock together. however, sound blows, text is long, ytmnd is boring, it's not funny, no one is going to read it, some of your evidence is weak. also part of your 5 is for not being a dumbass (aka evolutionist.) lastly, believing in evolution does not mean you must be atheist nor does being atheist mean you must believe in evolution. so the title is a misnomer. i think i may make a better one, funny included.

You claim that in order to deny there is a god you need absolute evidence. you don't need it to prove the existence of god? Are you better than me? You also claim that a building needs a builder. Gravity can build beautiful galaxies, do you deny the existence of gravity? These sorts of systems generated without the hand of god. Were you there when god created life? If you say yes, then you think yourself better than god. One last question... Every coke can and building needs a builder, so who built god?

The imbalances between genetic & technological evolution of mankind (and by tech... yes, i'm especially referring to early societal tech. like farms, surplus of foods, goods, market, trade, civilizations) were the important elements in a modern environment which would breed crime, religion (early religion's purpose was to UNITE people, go figure) wars, racism, anxiety, jealousy, hatred, etc.. and all the "sins" we hear spoke of today. If you want more details, send me a PM.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
I'll just add briefly, the sins that are spoken of are the direct result of primal human instincts. Genetically, we're all born somewhat aggressive.. how do you think humans were able to dominate over other species, survive famine & disease, ice age, droughts, etc? Humans had to hunt animals, we're predators. What do you think happened when we dominated over all species, had surplus of goods, no longer needed to hunt all day?
August 27th, 2006
(0)
That's right. We got lazy, but guess what.. our primal instincts are still here, we have technology advancing at phenomenal rates, but our genetics are changing at a snail's pace in comparison. Yes, humans need to vent this primal aggression. Instead of hunting animals, we began hunting other humans. Read up on some of the current issues being discussed by Psychologists, it makes a lot of sense.

You know, up to just past the banana part, I thought this was a big joke. I can't believe people don't understand the hypocrisy in what they believe. Hey, here's one for you. Remember the Ten Commandments? "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery; (3) you shall have no other gods before me. (4) You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath." Oops, that includes Jesus

None of your arguments hold any weight, they are a flimsy delusion by those with too much faith and too little reasoning. Use some common bloody sense. Sh*t, I stopped watching after it took Darwin out of Context, now I see this is simply an assault at free thought. Good work on the banana argument BTW, it took all of half a second to realize how stupid that is. The orange argument is the height of sophistry. There's nothing Christians love more than being persecuted, so I'm doing you a favor here. Just remember all the Atheist lead massacres throughout history.
