ok, where do i start? Sure, I agree we don't have ample knowledge to say "there is no god" but thats also goes for the statement "there is a god" And any evidence there is for a God in no way in evidence that Jesus is God or that Christianity is right. Agnosticism, ftw. I'll give you a 2 for the effort though.
Could've been done better. Try using the mouse trap theory. Without one piece of a mouse trap, it doesn't work at all and the chances of it forming through evolution is impossible...and there are 8 pieces to this trap. For blood coagulation to have evolved, which requires hundreds of different chemicals at once, is impossible...just like the mouse trap.

As for the whole hell concept, it's one big contradiction. The Bible says that God loves you, but if you're bad or if you don't believe in Jesus, you'll go to hell. That's like having a mom or dad who loves you very much, yet if you don't eat your vegetables or clean your room, he/she will kill you. It's senseless.
lack of proof is not proof. while no one can prove god does or does not exist, assuming "a creator" does exist because our intellect isn't capable of explaining the majority of the known universe or reality is just as absurd as saying there is no gold in china. also, this ytmnd is way too f*cking long and serious. go away.
you have strong evidence of a higher power (though i am still anatheist), but even if there is a god, there is no proof that the biblical interpretation of god is the true one. Oranges example fails: If you drop all those oranges they probable won't make rows, but there are billions of planets with no intelligent life. why? the oranges didn't line up for those billion, but it did for earth.

Also one of my freinds in college (studying to be a historian) has found that hell was a place were they burend trash in jurusealem. In a typo in one of the first version of the bible a common belife occured that this was were souls were burend. In later versions of the bible (medievel time) they encorperated this in to better control the peasents from revolting against there horiable living conditions. and, nobody is going to change there ideas of big things over a ytmnd so pls stop trying
Suck my Panthiest Athiest balls. Evolution occurs do to COMPLEX LIVING ORGANISMS having RANDOM GENETIC MUTATION which is spread to the population if it better suits the environment. Trying to justify the existance of something by saying "there isnt enough knowledge yet" is mute, because you still cant prove it! You cant say something exists because you cant disprove it!

The coca cola can is shaped as it is because humans made it. Nobody can be sure of ANYTHING, its about belief, you pick an explanation and go with it, we do this all the time. I consider myself an atheist because I think its failry obvious that all religion is created by man to make life easier, and not because its true, the lack of evidence of religeon and the fear of death in man point to this. I could just as easily tell someone that I was God and offer no evidence. I dont consider myself agnostic because even though I cant know for sure, Im all but sure.
I gots a few things to say to the whole idea of creationism and evolutionism. First of all, yes, the odds are very slim we'd be created by pure chance. About as slim as we'd be created in some other way to suit the universe's conditions. It's not merely a "Oh, this happened by pure chance" more of a "This sequence happened which lead to the outcome". We can look at it this way, lay out a deck of cards, seperated into 2 choices each, making it seem like a tree, having a piece of string connect to another---
of 2 cards. Your friend knows which 2, then asks you to pick one of them from behind his back. Whichever one you pick, place it back to it's original position, and move onto the next set of 2, until you run out of sets. You now have a single card at the very end, with an actual 1/52 chance you would chose it. YET, it doesn't matter what card you picked in the end cause you didn't know what you were looking for. The chance that we developed eyes were low, but that's not to say we couldn't develop some--

electrons in atoms are completely random and it is unknowable of their position and velocity. you're argument that the "atom to the universe is ordered" is false.
then, you're argument that since atheists "dont know" if there is a god they are agnostics applies to christians too. they dont it either. hence everyone is agnostic, whoohoo.

Ok. Where to start? First off, the only church I've seen try to farm believers more than Christianity is Scientology, and that is saying something. Second, What is it with Christians and trying to convert everyone? I'm atheist, proud of it, but not because it goes against your beliefs. I'm proud because it's my belief. Just like gay people are proud to be gay because it's part of who they are, not because it brings discomfort to everyone around them.
So we should become religious out of fear? That is the point you are obviously trying to make at the end. Logical fallacies or no, at least you're giving cash to YTMND. But the bannana theory you've given can also be explained by co-adaptive evoluationary traits, where a plant that finds a successfull way to attract pollinators does better than others...Plus, trying to prove faith via factual evidence is a bit counter-productive. :)
you know, in a sense the command banana that you buy in the store today is designed by humans. In fact, they have been cross breed so much over time that they cannot reproduce on their own anymore, they are all basically clones of the same plant putting them in danger of going extinct. A "wild" plantain is not so "well designed" for human consumption (tends to be smaller, harder to peel and have seeds).
Horrible logic and analogies. I won't waste time refuting everything you said but the most glaring hole I should point out is that you distinguish between an atheist and agnostic as though they were 2 mutually exclusive categories. An atheist is anyone who lacks belief in god. An agnostic believes they cannot know whether or not god exists, therefore lacks a belief in god. An atheist is to an agnostic as a quadrilateral is to a square. You are referring to strong atheism.
It should be noted that the Banana we're used to, the Cavendish, is a special dessert banana that is bred specifically to be eaten. It is genetically "too perfect" and would die off if it weren't for human domestication. "Natural" bananas are actually hard, terrible tasting and have huge seeds.. not really the type for human eating.. they also have a reddish-brown peel when they're ripe. So the only you proved is that humans have created their own perfect fruit by evolutionary change, way to go.
It was fine until you said mention "perhaps your love for sin is clouding your judgement". Religion is not a prerequisite for morality, it's unfortunate that you had to include that mistake. What I find interesting is that humans are arrogant enough to believe the universe REALLY was created just for them. It's like telling kids about Santa Claus so they'll behave well. Wouldn't it be magical if we go to this great big heaven so we don't have to fear death anymore? ..or you could accept the fact that we're mortal, and move on with your life. Perhaps you could try helping other people because it makes you feel good instead of believing you'll be rewarded with karma in the afterlife?
Perhaps the most confusing of some people's beliefs is the fact that they assume written words of the bible (easily manipulatable by humans throughout history) are in fact perfectly intact messages from God. Wouldn't you be worried the messages could be perverted by Satan? Ironically, you could all be following Satan's trap, and going to hell by believing the bible.
I think trying to prove or disprove the existence of god through science is incredibly stupid and so is your argument of the oranges. Suppose the oranges fell into any other formation? If we took a snapshot of this formation and thought about what the odds were of it forming exactly to THAT formation, we would still find it astronomical.
Truly though, humans are simply dumb animals. I am, as are you, and everyone else. We have but 5 animal senses to absorb information, and a simple mind to analyze the data. Helen Keller only had the use of 3 senses, she couldn't see colors, but does that mean colors don't exist? How are we to know endless information couldn't be obtained through 10, 100, 1000, million, billion senses? If you believe you can understand the universe and origins of life with 5 senses and a human brain, good for you.
You make a valid point about the possibility of an intelligent designer. Many great minds from Einstein to Leonardo have stated this. Your mistake is in trying to associate religion with spirituality. Religion has for centuries entrapped mankind and pinned us against each other. Your "50 oranges" theory is from an entirely wrong standpoint. You say that the universe couldnt have been formed through near impossibility to near impossibility countless times. If you took those fifty oranges and dropped them over and over for eternity, then eventually, they will land in perfect rows, all facing the same way, exactly spaced to the nano-milimeter. Existence has had plenty of time to form, my friend. Eventually, you WILL get every combination of circumstances that are possible.
To Peterguy: Personaly i think that ytmnd just isnt the place for Spiritual/Scientific discussions. But to make a small comment. The fact is we do not know if there is a god or if there isnt...for all we know even the f*cking FSM could be the real god. Humanity is just not at the point in Evoloution where we can know.

Not only are half these disagreements juvenile and upset because someone actually made them think, but the other half are just widely misinformed. Whether it be from misconceptions, fears, or just being ignorant of the truth, it's easier to not care until it's too late. Agnosticism is the same thing as driving without auto insurance, then hurrying to buy insurance after you get in a wreck. It just doesn't work that way, and it's always too late for them to find out.
and when I say customize your beliefs, I mean don't only choose to believe some parts, then throw away the other parts of a faith. Logical points, however evolution is real and pretty much proven. People can say it’s a theory, but there is also "germ theory" even though everyone pretty much agrees on germs existing. As for belief in god, it’s a matter of faith. Faith does not equal logic. Creationism is faith, evolution is logic. Feel free to believe creationism, but there is no scientific proof. Can you prove every word in the bible is true? Can you prove Jesus is the son of god? Can you prove that people go to heaven or hell?
The funny thing is, I get more laughs out of the comments then the YTMND itself. For one, whoever states that religion isn't something you should pick and choose is ignorant at best. Faith and religion are personal issues, not communal, so what matters is the personal choice. And I'm oh so afraid of god, drop that arguement already =/. You claim that in order to deny there is a god you need absolute evidence. you don't need it to prove the existence of god? Are you better than me? You also claim that a building needs a builder. Gravity can build beautiful galaxies, do you deny the existence of gravity? These sorts of systems generated without the hand of god. Were you there when god created life? If you say yes, then you think yourself better than god. One last question... Every coke can and building needs a builder, so who built god?
The imbalances between genetic & technological evolution of mankind (and by tech... yes, i'm especially referring to early societal tech. like farms, surplus of foods, goods, market, trade, civilizations) were the important elements in a modern environment which would breed crime, religion (early religion's purpose was to UNITE people, go figure) wars, racism, anxiety, jealousy, hatred, etc.. and all the "sins" we hear spoke of today. I'll just add briefly, the sins that are spoken of are the direct result of primal human instincts. Genetically, we're all born somewhat aggressive.. how do you think humans were able to dominate over other species, survive famine & disease, ice age, droughts, etc? Humans had to hunt animals, we're predators. What do you think happened when we dominated over all species, had surplus of goods, no longer needed to hunt all day?
That's right. We got lazy, but guess what.. our primal instincts are still here, we have technology advancing at phenomenal rates, but our genetics are changing at a snail's pace in comparison. Yes, humans need to vent this primal aggression. Instead of hunting animals, we began hunting other humans. Read up on some of the current issues being discussed by Psychologists, it makes a lot of sense.
