to mccain and machine: lighten up dude and/or dudettes. It's just stupid fun. I mean, who cares? We're all going to die anyway, let's just get laid as many times as possible before the end comes!

Also he's driving backwards, which is hilarious :D Reminds me of powder toast man. Somebody should make a "lol powder toast man" YTMND. But credit me, though :P

"I think glabal warming is a bunch of crap" I bet in the 50s, you'd be buying cigarettes because the doctors on TV said they'd be good for you.
July 8th, 2006

Yeah, and in the 70s I'd be worrying about that second ice age

for those of you who think global warming will lead the the melting of icecaps/flooding keep in mind that the icecaps are growing in the center, and only melting on the edges. the 1 degree climate change is only part of a big gay cycle. get used to it.

Wow, that ice burg is moving unrealisticly fast! Poor polar bear. He's gonna' go flying when that things hits land!!

July 8th, 2006

areas of the antarctic ice sheet grow because of increased snowfall caused by climate change. the melting in both Greenland and the west Antarctic sheet WAYYY more than offsets any growing ice. but of course skeptics jump on anything that SEEMS to fall their way, ignoring how global warming actually works...

as for the 'big gay cycle' - take a look at some actual data. the same up and down pattern continues over time because the earth 'breathes' depending on which hemisphere faces most of the sun, but b/c of retained CO2, temps increase and they will continue to.

sorry to be a DOWNER, but the only reason anyone thinks theres an actual debate is because of a media that has to put both sides of any debate on equal ground, and weak kneed politicians of both stripes who relentlessly avoid the issue for a variety of reasons.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
LOL Debate
July 8th, 2006
(0)
there isnt a real debate :P - I'm right here. Hell, that study which measured ice from 02-03 specifically stated that the thickening does not offset global warming effects to prevent skeptics from using it for thier own cause. of course it didnt stop them, because journals like Capitalist Magazine want to believe what they want to beleive.

It proves global warming is a natural cycle much like everything else in the universe. I won't bother posting the article about warming on Mars (must be the damn Mars rovers polluting and causing warming!) Why does that make you mad? lol
July 8th, 2006
(0)
warming and cooling on planets is natural, but the earth is currently going through a cycle different than any on record, EVER, dating back hundreds of thousands of years. but i guess i shouldnt expect a soldier to know when he's being lied to, should i?
July 8th, 2006
(0)
see, skeptics fight back with other planets' completely unrelated movements, and Michael Crichton novels, whereas actual scientists have actual DATA about OUR OWN PLANET.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Carbon_Dioxide_400kyr.png - graph of CO2 emissions over thousands of years. as the earth becomes industrialized, they dramatically increase. C02 gets trapped in our atmosphere and causes temperatures to rise. its pretty simple and clear to me, thats gonna be my last argument on this. if this doesnt make you at least consider it, well i doubt anything will.

finally, i have no problem with skeptics. constant questioning is the very heart of science. but theres a difference between legit questioning as John Christy formerly had on the subject, and skeptics who simply make disbelieve because South Park decided to make fun of Al Gore.

if we have known about it for so long, we should have de-populated the areas that are gonig to flood, and moved inland, then, when it all melts off, move towards the poles so the climate is bearable, then, when we eventually burn up all the fossil fuel and are forced to use electric cars and alternate power sources, everything will be fine, good climate and no worry for the future.
July 8th, 2006

I was expecting something with Al Gore personally. Still, nice YTMND. Hehe

There is no true debate among scientists anywhere in the world that global warming exists and that it is caused by us. This is not a part of the natural cycle of the planet. Never has CO2 been this high in the atmosphere and its causing the world to heat up, melting ice in both the poles and greenland. Causing the oceans level to rise and the warmer water to cause more powerful and deadly storms.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
millions upon millions of people live in the coastal regions soon to be underwater. And the history books are being forced to be re-written as hurricanes have begun to strike South America, something that has never happened before. You are HORRIBLY mistaken if you listen to people such as James Inhofe and the wonderfully insane people at fox news, im afraid you're being horrifically mis-informed.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
and because artic melting we have begun to find polar bears who have drowned. Often swimming up to 60 miles to find ice stable enough to rest on. So the bear in this ytmnd would be drowning, especially since that ice isn't large enough for a beast of his size.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Global Warming may exist. You could argue that the greenhouse gases produced by humanity are changing the environment. Or you could argue that the Earth is going through a natural change. Just as there were multiple ice ages, and multiple hot periods during the Earth's history.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Psh, shoulda read Zero-Cool's comments. I admit defeat. Although I didn't really support either side.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Well at least it's another reason to support nuclear power.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
2 for lol fad Also, I personally don't believe either way because I haven't seen scientific data that definately proves that global warming is caused by man's activity. Those who have opinions on things they don't actually know the facts on are the truly sad ones.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
also that wasn't a stab at anyone anyone directly
July 8th, 2006
(0)
First off let me say this is a disputable subject and I am iffy on this. Furthermore, CO2 helps agricultural growth as tested in Arizona; with double CO2 the crops grew 50% faster. Secondly it has been said that the melting of icecaps and such will raise the sea level 10-20 feet even so since the artic icecap is floating it can not increase the sea level as it has displaced all the water it can.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Temperatures in Antartica are 50oC below zero in its interior and about 20oC below zero along its coasts. It would take much more warming to even start melting the icecaps. Over the past 25-50 years recording stations have experienced a 2oC warming, while others a 2oC cooling.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Also the Enviromental News Network, who strongly supports global warming, made a statement that the west Anartica ice sheet isnt melting and hasnt been stable over the last century.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
There was two men who discovered two World War II aircrafts 268 below the ice surface... Further investigation reveals that these 2 aircraft were being ferried to England on July 15, 1942 when an artic storm forced them to land on Greendland's icecap. Hence, these planes have been buried by a growing icecap over 57 years.

I'm loving that CEI (the Discovery Institute for global warming deniers) "C02 is life!" propaganda. Quote-mining and misrepresenting actual science to fit their agenda. Par for the course in any conservative anti-intellectual movement. Check some recent studies, increasing CO2 has diminishing returns for increasing plant growth. You can only get that benefit if you where you live still has the right climate to grow what you want, if you can grow anything at all.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
One of worst dangers of global climate change is the potential to pernamently change the weather from it has been historically. Farmlands losing rainfall and experiencing more extreme temperatures, warm places becoming cold and vice versa. It doesn't take much imagination to see what this would do to the infastructure in place that depends on specific weather.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Antarctica is showing a net loss of ice, but then again I shouldn't be expecting some who thinks it's just a giant icecube floating on the ocean to legitimate research.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
"Well at least it's another reason to support nuclear power." Nuclear power plants still require an energy investment of hydrocarbon-based fuels - ie, gas for construction machinery, power for industry to maufacture the parts for the plant, and so on. And when they DO come online, the power plants spend years "paying back" the initial energy investment they require. Plus, nuclear fuel isn't getting any more plentiful, and it isn't exactly harmless to the environment.
(0)
very clever =]
(0)
thats f*cked up.
(1)
To the guy who welcomed global warming because he wants beach property: You moron, when the ice caps melt the ocean level will rise, and nearly every beach will be under water. and if Antarctica's ice caps melt, the level will rise some 60 meters. E.G; no more NYC, LA, Miami, Halifax, Seattle, San Fran, Vancouver, etc.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
I think he means to say that he wants his existing inland property to become beachfront - in which case, he'd still have to deal with inhospitable and virulent weather the likes of which would make any beachfront miserable.
(0)
Personally, I'd rather welcome a gradual and natural ice age, than f*cking up the earths environment and weather patterns. If an ice age would occur, we'd have the right technology to deal with it anyway.
July 8th, 2006

Global warming is not a joke.
July 8th, 2006

Scientists estimate that the threat of global will cause a cataclysmic rise in ocean levels of 35 inches, no where near 60 meters, lol

(0)
Triscuit - 35 inches will be the rise if the Arctic melts, if the ANTarctic melts, which should happen within the next 200 years if everyone keeps buying SUV's, then it will rise 60 meters. / First-of-two - lol? every coast in the world will be under water.
(0)
BTW, the arctic should be nothing but water by an estimated date of 2050-2060. Half of the polar bear population will probably drown due to thaws in the ice on which they dwell. This sh*t is happening right now.

July 8th, 2006
(0)
"Destroying the cities just means less blue voters." - so you must have loved seeing New York burn on 9/11. 3000 less blue voters, huh? You're one hell of a representative for the 'flyover' states.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
"Somebody tell me why Mars, Jupiter, Triton, and Pluto are undergoing global warming." - we dont need to. global warming is a natural cycle for planets. the earths current cycle is unnatural and in conflict with every other pattern dating back hundreds of thousands of years... oh why am i trying to convert you, Mr. Logic. "duh - if NYC floods - less blue voters. They wont move somewhere else, and the US certainly wouldnt lynch those who denied it was happening"
July 8th, 2006
(0)
I love it when deniers just make things up. Bonus irony for believing global warming is happening on Mars based on three years of data from a single region of the planet while ignoring decades of research and data going back six hundred-fifty thousand years on Earth.
(0)
Haha, nice
July 8th, 2006
(0)
yeah, really. the jupiter stuff is a hoot too, i mean comparing a planetary storm and airflow shift that has made their poles have opposite temparatures, vs. the Earth which has a universally rising temperature? Guess its easier to blindly accept whatever helps you sleep easier at night..

Anybody who worries about global warming is a moron. Eventually cars are going to go be powered by hydrogogen rather than gasoline and fusion power plants will replace coal and oil ones. There is going to a rise in temperature by a few degrees, but it doesn't matter because in a 100 years we'll be able to send a few nanobots up into the atmosphere and clean it up completely.

(0)
politics aside..its an issue we have to deal with. once those polar bears start floating away on ice blocks, they will float over to the main continents. and thats when they will attack!
July 8th, 2006
(0)
The arctic icecap is floating, it cannot increase the ocean level because it already has displaced all the water it can. Try it out. Place ice in a glass and fill it to the very top with water. It will not overflow as the ice melts.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Whether this is a cycle or not, I gurantee you none of us will be alive when this happens. I personally, am moving to the moon with my girlfriend. There we shall mate and create a new race; anyone else is welcome to come.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
DUH. but glaciers rest on land, such as in Greenland which itself is already proven to be causing a net rise in sea level. And in Antarctica shelfs of ice fall in large masses, which is not the same as free floating ice. SCIENCE!
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Okay... Pat Epps and Richard Taylor discovered two World War II B-17 Flying Fortresses and six new P-38 Lightnings—268 feet below the ice’s surface. The squadron was being ferried over to England on July 15, 1942 when a arctic storm forced them to land on the Greenland icecap. The planes have been buried by a growing icecap the past 57 years. I also see how you could say its just starting to melt now, none the less its going to be past our life time.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
that is the funniest thing i have seen in a while... i usually dont like fads, but that was well done.. by the way, global warming doesnt exist, senatorjohnr

Sitsu, ytmnd isn't exactly a place of science either. =/
July 8th, 2006
(0)
"Anybody who worries about global warming is a moron." WRONG! Hydrogen is a CARRIER of energy and fusion requires other electricity in the first place
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Also, global dimming from burning fossil fuels is masking the effects of warming - temp. range rose 1C (massive) in 3 days after 9/11 - because of no flights
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Well done dude, I laughed pretty hard at this one
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Durr dey fund sum plains in dat dere ice GASP, you've made the shocking discovery that Antarctica has a natural cycle where it packs on more ice via snowfall. Maybe you can understand the fact it is now losing more than it grows back. That's why I used the term "net loss" earlier. MattressMan was spot on with his comment on the evolution of the denier's argument.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Since when has Global Warming became scientific fact? The last time I checked, it was still a theory.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
Polar bears are very buoyant and can swim for miles.
July 8th, 2006
(0)
And al gore disregards all facts when he makes claims, he claimed canadas conservative government is funded by the oil companies, but corporate donations are capped at $1000 a year by canadian law, oh noes : (
July 8th, 2006
(0)
I also don't see how an average global temp rise of 1 degree could cause melting. Unless the caps are at exactly freezing, one degree isn't going to make a difference. So it must just be the natural cycles of those regions. (This is just an observation. Not scientific. Please correct me if I'm wrong.)
(0)
Guy who said anyone who worries about global warming is a moron due to newer more environmental-friendly cars: THE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE. AND WE ARE STILL USING THOSE F*CKING SUV'S!

July 8th, 2006
(0)
"The last time I checked, it was still a theory." lol, who were you checking with, John Stossel? HA! As for Gore, is that all you have left? ad hominem attacks? how bout some actual data instead? all the g.w. atheists have are inept analogies, no recent reputable studies dispute it, and the major skeptics are jumping ship. this century sea levels are already up approx. 3/4 of a foot (ctd)
July 8th, 2006
(0)
that bear can swim though
July 8th, 2006
(0)
numbers like 1 foot and 1 degree seem small to people, but its not so simple - a global rise of 3 feet would dislocate 100 million people, and a 1 degree raise isnt a global constant - annual arctic temps would be up 5-10 degrees, 13-15 degrees over water. as for the cutesy polar bears, just a few degrees is enough to ruin the habitat of the fish, which in turn leads to emaciated polar bears, which we are now seeing .
July 8th, 2006
(0)
polar bears eat the seals, not fish
July 8th, 2006

It's my understanding - and I am by no means a biologist - that polar bears can only swim so far before they just tire out and drown; and it does happen due to glacier melting. Oh, and for the record, I got the picture of the polar bear from the cover of TIME magazine's recent global warming issue, in case you've not been to the check out counter at your local CostCo to see the current magazine issues.

the only reason people doubt global warming's existance is that they're automatically distrustful of liberals. some good making al gore look stupid is going to do you when the country's permanently flooded, dumbasses.

Oh yes, Al Gore and a fringe group of liberals known as "scientists" believe in global warming. But I don't believe them because they're wrong, Jerry Falwell, James Inhofe, James Dobson, and the trust-worthy people at the petroleum lobby tell me so.

People are confused about the facts because they are wanted to by the powers that be. 0% of scientific peer-reviewed articles disputed the research and ideas of global warming, while 53% of newspaper articles disagreed with the finding of the scientific community.

the whole global warming alarmist propaganda is totally lame. what's the point? everyone should become cavemen again? since there weren't ice ages or warming back then? 5 star

umm Shih-tzu? your claim that I didn't present any "data" ? you didn't read the links I presented above, which can say more than I in comments here. In fact, the mark of a liberal such as yourself is not being able to argue facts. try reading this again: http://www.canadafreepress.com/2006/harris061206.htm
September 8th, 2006

no, Hammy, I and others presented data, you presented a conservative columnist who pointed out random dissenters, who noone denies exist but are of a vast, vast, vast minority.

DrewC: "Hence, these planes have been buried by a growing icecap over 57 years." That's the worst scientific reasoning I've ever encountered. Just no. No. No. You can easily find maps of what Antarctica used to look like from above, and what it looks like now. Not that hard to see that it's shrinking. People like you need to wake up. It was 72 degrees in late December here in NY. WTF?!

global warming is real, however for us to cut emissions to the extent demanded is totally unrealistic and devastating. and it will probably continue without our contribution but at a slower pace... who gives a sh*t, the world will correct itself in a few thousand years with the next ice age, by eliminating greenhouse gas creating humans.

Global warming is defiantly real, but it's all natural. Back in the 1100's Scandinavia was so warm, vikings took up farming!
