areas of the antarctic ice sheet grow because of increased snowfall caused by climate change. the melting in both Greenland and the west Antarctic sheet WAYYY more than offsets any growing ice. but of course skeptics jump on anything that SEEMS to fall their way, ignoring how global warming actually works...
there isnt a real debate :P - I'm right here. Hell, that study which measured ice from 02-03 specifically stated that the thickening does not offset global warming effects to prevent skeptics from using it for thier own cause. of course it didnt stop them, because journals like Capitalist Magazine want to believe what they want to beleive.

C02 gets trapped in our atmosphere and causes temperatures to rise. its pretty simple and clear to me, thats gonna be my last argument on this. if this doesnt make you at least consider it, well i doubt anything will.
if we have known about it for so long, we should have de-populated the areas that are gonig to flood, and moved inland, then, when it all melts off, move towards the poles so the climate is bearable, then, when we eventually burn up all the fossil fuel and are forced to use electric cars and alternate power sources, everything will be fine, good climate and no worry for the future.
There is no true debate among scientists anywhere in the world that global warming exists and that it is caused by us. This is not a part of the natural cycle of the planet. Never has CO2 been this high in the atmosphere and its causing the world to heat up, melting ice in both the poles and greenland. Causing the oceans level to rise and the warmer water to cause more powerful and deadly storms.

And the history books are being forced to be re-written as hurricanes have begun to strike South America, something that has never happened before. You are HORRIBLY mistaken if you listen to people such as James Inhofe and the wonderfully insane people at fox news, im afraid you're being horrifically mis-informed.
First off let me say this is a disputable subject and I am iffy on this. Furthermore, CO2 helps agricultural growth as tested in Arizona; with double CO2 the crops grew 50% faster. Secondly it has been said that the melting of icecaps and such will raise the sea level 10-20 feet even so since the artic icecap is floating it can not increase the sea level as it has displaced all the water it can.
There was two men who discovered two World War II aircrafts 268 below the ice surface... Further investigation reveals that these 2 aircraft were being ferried to England on July 15, 1942 when an artic storm forced them to land on Greendland's icecap. Hence, these planes have been buried by a growing icecap over 57 years.
I'm loving that CEI (the Discovery Institute for global warming deniers) "C02 is life!" propaganda. Quote-mining and misrepresenting actual science to fit their agenda. Par for the course in any conservative anti-intellectual movement. Check some recent studies, increasing CO2 has diminishing returns for increasing plant growth. You can only get that benefit if you where you live still has the right climate to grow what you want, if you can grow anything at all.
One of worst dangers of global climate change is the potential to pernamently change the weather from it has been historically. Farmlands losing rainfall and experiencing more extreme temperatures, warm places becoming cold and vice versa. It doesn't take much imagination to see what this would do to the infastructure in place that depends on specific weather.
"Well at least it's another reason to support nuclear power." Nuclear power plants still require an energy investment of hydrocarbon-based fuels - ie, gas for construction machinery, power for industry to maufacture the parts for the plant, and so on. And when they DO come online, the power plants spend years "paying back" the initial energy investment they require. Plus, nuclear fuel isn't getting any more plentiful, and it isn't exactly harmless to the environment.
To the guy who welcomed global warming because he wants beach property: You moron, when the ice caps melt the ocean level will rise, and nearly every beach will be under water. and if Antarctica's ice caps melt, the level will rise some 60 meters. E.G; no more NYC, LA, Miami, Halifax, Seattle, San Fran, Vancouver, etc.

Anybody who worries about global warming is a moron. Eventually cars are going to go be powered by hydrogogen rather than gasoline and fusion power plants will replace coal and oil ones. There is going to a rise in temperature by a few degrees, but it doesn't matter because in a 100 years we'll be able to send a few nanobots up into the atmosphere and clean it up completely.

GASP, you've made the shocking discovery that Antarctica has a natural cycle where it packs on more ice via snowfall. Maybe you can understand the fact it is now losing more than it grows back. That's why I used the term "net loss" earlier.

I also don't see how an average global temp rise of 1 degree could cause melting. Unless the caps are at exactly freezing, one degree isn't going to make a difference. So it must just be the natural cycles of those regions. (This is just an observation. Not scientific. Please correct me if I'm wrong.)

numbers like 1 foot and 1 degree seem small to people, but its not so simple - a global rise of 3 feet would dislocate 100 million people, and a 1 degree raise isnt a global constant - annual arctic temps would be up 5-10 degrees, 13-15 degrees over water. as for the cutesy polar bears, just a few degrees is enough to ruin the habitat of the fish, which in turn leads to emaciated polar bears, which we are now seeing .
It's my understanding - and I am by no means a biologist - that polar bears can only swim so far before they just tire out and drown; and it does happen due to glacier melting. Oh, and for the record, I got the picture of the polar bear from the cover of TIME magazine's recent global warming issue, in case you've not been to the check out counter at your local CostCo to see the current magazine issues.

No. No. You can easily find maps of what Antarctica used to look like from above, and what it looks like now. Not that hard to see that it's shrinking. People like you need to wake up. It was 72 degrees in late December here in NY. WTF?!
global warming is real, however for us to cut emissions to the extent demanded is totally unrealistic and devastating. and it will probably continue without our contribution but at a slower pace... who gives a sh*t, the world will correct itself in a few thousand years with the next ice age, by eliminating greenhouse gas creating humans.
