BTW, The reason I chose the story involving the little girl as an example of your 'Catholic' bashing over the first story involving the protestant martyr being burned as a heretic is because you told that story using facts and references, the story involving the little girl was obviously baseless and VERY generic.
I'm not religious, but I live life to the fullest, I shun those who press beliefs on others, be they athiest or catholic or otherwise. Personally I think the bible is a fairy tale, sure but who am I to tell catholics they're wrong? I agree with what believe in god brings - family, love, hope, etc. If people need that to get them through the day then what kind of person would I be to destroy that?

Nothing personal to Whetstone. But I am just suprised Max has not banned him yet, along with all his friends who are not making much effort to hide the fact that they are trying to connect a tube of religious arguments right into our series there of. But then again, if you want to pour a little extra money into a HUMOUR SITE just so people can get a clear look at you're message, that they will at the most, ignore or ridicule you for. I still have not gotten anything but the cookie-cutter response of "believe with ur heart that Jesus died for ur sins." Because we all know the HEART and not the BRAIN is the seat of emotion. It's funny how riled up the Catholics have gotten. Admit it, the Catholics have a bad track record of corruption, and it is why a separation of church and state was created. My problem remains that this doctrine is nothing but interpretation of a single line of the Bible (John 3:16 even I know that).
I am incapable of trusting humans, since we ARE NOT GOD, and we are imperfect beings, incapable of passing divine judgement. Having that humility, I recognize that much of the Christian faith is a subjective interpretation and not some concrete deal of being "born again" to escape God's wrath upon death. I believe that Jesus died for our sins, but I don't believe that he was created solely as the way to get into heaven. So I agree with djstormx here.
I think the main point of the people that criticize this is that it utterly fails to provide people some form of logic so that they can believe. It bypasses logic and preys on human emotions. "Are you unhappy with life? YOU CAN BE INFINITELY HAPPY IF YOU BELIEVE AND THEN YOU WON'T FEAR DEATH!" You give people the motivation to believe, but you don't give them sound reasoning for why YOUR slant of Christianity is more right than others.
My best friend has been going to church for a while. One day he got curious and read the newly discovered Gospel of Judas. He thought it was interesting so he tried to have a discussion about it with his pastor. His pastor put up an invisible wall. He laughed and mused that God said there would be false prophets and skirted the question entirely. Gee. I hope JOHN wasn't a false prophet.
Interestingly, I do admire this one crazy guy that occassionaly sets up at our schools free-speech zone and carries a big sign that lists about 50 different kinds of people that are going to Hell. I admire him not for his fanaticism, but for the fact that if you actually talk to him, he knows his stuff. He knows his stuff much more than what I'll call "weak" Christians. If you want to devote your life to Christ, join the priesthood. Oh wait, we can't do THAT now can we? Let's just be half-assed.
I could be a Jesus-starved soul standing out like a zit asking for someone to show me the light and redeem me. Christians preach that you should try to convert people and never give up hope on someone. Yet, I doubt any Christians will try to address my concerns. Only practice Christianity at your convenience. That's the motto of the modern day Christian. I'm too much trouble. Remember that Martin Luther was a REFORMER. I doubt he would want anyone to become complacent with what they are told.
You know, living life afraid of what some guy who MIGHT not exist thinks about you is kind of a wasted one. If God exists, I firmly believe it doesn't have the capacity to judge. To infer that God judges is to infer that it has human-like intelligence - at the very best, at the apex of evolution. This still doesn't give a being that has carefully balanced the forces of the universe enough credit IMO. It's we, as a race, that judges each other, and our afterlife is in history, not Heaven/Hell.

I don't get many counterpoints from Christians, though, and certainly no intelligent ones. Christian comments amount to "I agree lolol the lord is good." Ignores modern science? Modern science has done NOTHING to disprove God. All of the things like dating methods etc are useless after one a few 10 thousand years back most of the time. Or they are based on theories backed up by assumptions. Which is quite sad really. It is the people that actually think modern science has disproved God that are in severe denial.

How do you explain the indcredible irony that you will likely look at a list like that one and say "Oh yeah, all of THOSE gods are made-up. Those people are superstitous myth-followers, but my God is real"? Christians understand the athiest perspective better than they realize. I just believe in 1 fewer god.
Religion needs to be abolished. People can have morals without needing to believe in a higher power; just look at Humanism. Religion itself has caused more wars throughout history and even today than anything else. Conservative viewpoints supported by the church that promote discrimination against your fellow humans (women, homosexuals, followers of another faith) are the one thing standing between humanity and coming anywhere close to being able to live with each other peacefully.

Although I think that this kind of thing has no reason to be on YTMND, I was going to at least give it a 2 for being positive proselytizaion, rather than negative slurs on and libel against deists/agnostics/atheists/Catholics/what-have-you. I was even prepared to overlook the parts of the little girl's story that spoke of 'not knowing much about Jesus because she was a Roman Catholic' and the implication at the end that the parents weren't Christian. (The father just wasn't a very GOOD Christian.)
However, at the end, the inspirational stories gave way to "I can see the angels! Heaven is beautiful! Hi there, Jesus!" style utterances, which I see as an attempt to say, "These people, on the border between worlds, saw Heaven. It therefore does exist. Eat that, atheists." Even if this is an incorrect interpretation on my part, there isn't much "grace" in those deathbed exclamations that I can see. So, one star.
I watched the other one, for some reason. I assume this is more stuff written by Christians who have incontrivertible proof of something because, hey, Christians made it up. I have no general contention with your presentation this time though I feel that your focus on the afterlife is a self-centered view of theology that derides the bulk of the message of the major spiritual leaders throughout history including Christ.
Had Christ intended the salvation of the individual soul to be the focus of his narrative one would think that he would have called for those effective in doing so to convert as many as possible and then die a martyr’s death calling all of the rest, who are ineffective proselytizers to die for him at their soonest possible juncture.
Instead Christ’s focus on justice and the loving treatment of other men indicates a schema that is not simply about what I need to do to get out off of this coil with the highest score but also what one should do to be both good to others and good to one’s own self. Merely because good will towards all men, even your enemies, is not as effective a selling point as the threat that you will suffer if you do not believe this way that does not mean that you should forget the latter.
Cries of the Infidels IS a scare tactic, and I personally find it offensive that you would try to scare people into "believing" what you believe. It is purely intimidation, and has nothing to do with persuasion. If someone converts to Christianity (or other religion) out of fear of hell, who is to say they won't still go there anyway? All it does is make them fear hell in life, and I don't believe God would look kindly upon someone pretending to believe in him when they don't, out of fear.

There's no comparison of what is better or worse. God says that if you sell your daughter it is for 7 years and no more. I see no mention of wrongdoing. I see no mention of degree.
