I feel like I'm witnessing the second coming of Katy Perry right before my eyes. That's high praise, don't get me wrong. This is going on MTV in like 3 days.
Or, the magic of how trailers for cinema never seem to have anything to do with cinema.
Or, how the magic of how trailers for cinema never seem to have anything to do with cinema allows one to turn anything into the magic of trailers for cinema which don't seem to have anything to do with the original source or with the original piece of cinema for which the trailer was made. All of which illustrates:
That may take awhile. You know how plants first sprout, then seed? Yeah, it's like that. It could be awhile. It may only happen once, and then it will all shrivel and die. It may happen too late. You just never know, you know.
Also, there's a drive in about 30 minutes southeast of me. Bad part of town, so I don't know that it'd live up to those rose-tinted depictions of drive-ins in the 50s, but it's there!
I've never been to a drive in. I have nostalgia for something that I never experienced. Kind of like seeing people thrown into a moat for bad behavior. It makes perfect sense to me. Welcome back, old pal, to you! Or did you never leave? I stand firm with the belief that a medium can never die, only the devices that play it. Such is the state of the laserdisc. The artists can die, though, and I don't know where they all went! Or who took their place. Maybe nobody. I'll amend your proclamation: dormant medium.
ytmnd is filled with communists who won't let me vote on this site. I say we start a revolution. On another note, this site is like watching Cat People from an odd angle in a sequence of neighboring drive in theaters with tilted screens. Which I happen to like. A lot.
How could the greatest artist in the history of the medium be obsolete? No, I will not stand for such slanderous self-accusations. More options do not render the previous creations obsolete! The car with 5 cupholders instead of 4 is not necessarily any better. How many cups does one need to hold? The new ones are probably made out of a flimsier plastic and won't last nearly as long.
If not the greatest ytmnd ever made, certainly the best ytmnd made under the limitations of imposed ugliness as some sort of self flagellation of the art upon itself.
For the record, I thought the last update was awesome and I like everything but black on white text and Ed Hardy t-shirt style graphics on the new one. Oh, and I wish my own name were a different color than 'random user' like it used to be because I only care about my own comments. That's the narcissism in me talking. It's the only thing worth listening to. Also, this is all off the record, just like last time.
