Why do you always put so much work into such random things?

There's nothing so odd about that. Kemel Attaturk had an entire menagerie called Abdul.

Yes, but http://gridlock.ytmnd.com/ probobly took half the work of this but has 90% more Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 14% more Pomegranate, and 3 extra black people. I like your work a lot but most of it has no point and I'm curious as to why... It seems like you're just 'practicing.'

Salvador Dali's art didn't really have much "point", either.

Actually surrealism often has more point that classical art pieces... You just might not understand it. I like alot of the early Modern Art stuff. This cat thing is somethin' else though. Unless it's all about vaginas =D

surrealism had a point inasmuch as it had at its base a structuralistic rather than poststructuralistic philosophy. it didn't believe that Truth with a capital T was dead, it just thought it was lost.

Indeed. The closest thing to this though is a very confused Dadaist/Pop piece... which is a contradiction in and of itself. So what is it? I like your work and I don't downvote hard work, but if you tell me the point I can actually throw you a vote.

and though i find it rude to point, if i was trying to make it sound lofty, i'd call it cultural ethnography at its least and a resistant "repetition with a difference" (De Certeau) at best. if i was trying to make it sound lofty. fart.

I hate to get in the middle of this, but I'm not sure why you're asking for a point, tz? Some of the best pieces are art are purely emotional. For the same reason humans prefer blue over red - Some things can be very appealing without driving home a point of any sort.

like herding cats. it's a CATegory exercise (koan - does the cate gory of "all categories" itself fit into a category). it's humorous juxtaposition of similar cultural artifacts so arranged as to provide a sort of muted apophasis in the dearth of a transcendental signified.

there's a Sandman story called Dream of a Thousand Cats, where one old cat gives a speech about the history of the species. Long ago, humans were small and slaves to enormous cat rulers. Then one day, enough humans, 1000 humans, dreamed themselves in charge, and it happened. But, goes the story, try getting a 1000 cats to agree on anything.

in a way, you just did. and that works for me. maybe in cats 2 there'll be all the forgotten and discarded cats. the beebo, the milo, the toonces, the scratchy and snowball 2, the cat-women. no need for names. they don't come when you call.
