It's due to how different browsers round pixles in CSS. Here is an article from the guy that wrote jquery http://ejohn.org/blog/sub-pixel-problems-in-css/. I guess there really isn't much that max can do. I guess I owe max a WHAT THE F*CK IS THAT!
