One question though: Why is there a dramatic change all of a sudden? Some of the users just added should have been there a long time ago (like hanktherapper, mattdh12, AwesomeBob) and some should have been removed a while ago (like RySenkari and DonaldMcRonald), but it seems to me the algorithms for featured user status are now all screwed up. Why is someone qualified, like dmaz, who has several sites with a lot of views, votes, and high ratings, removed from the list to let someone like FF0080, (continued)
I have never understood the algorithms behind the featured user list. I think it's better now in that most of the new people are more creative and make better sites. I think I figured out why those people were removed from the list. Max said that he was going to base the list on more current activity than overall activity. Most of the users removed have not released a lot of sites lately. And those who have--were not rated that well.
hmm, those seem like good reasons, but if thats the case, then MasterSitsu and syncan would lose their status for not posting in a long time, and keaton would lose his status for posting poorly rated sites. I don't get how it works, I wish max would make it clear to us through a news post or something.
This time around, it started with a fresh run of the algorithm then incorporated edits from btape and teknorat, so if you want to blame anyone for not being on or being on the list, point your hate that way. Hopefully the list will rotate around and change more often to get more good content makers highlighted. Also shoover is right.
GoldDean lost pink status...as far as I know, he's been featured since the beginning (also, it's been bugging the sh*t out of me since I first saw this site, you gotta fix the spelling of gr33nscr33n's name)...and Goneja is now a black featured user, not sure about the rest of those who got unfeatured
A good way to find out if a user is still really featured (take Goneja for an example since his name shows up in black font) is to click the USERS tab and browse the users. Goneja's name will show up pink there. But when I saw Omni's name in there, I realized it was in the regular brown font. Any featured user should show up pink.
