You don't see the cannonballs in the air. You should probably add some.

I was pondering that earlier, but I am unsure if you would be able to actually make out a cannon ball between firing and a sea strike when you consider the velocity it is traveling and the limited number of gif frames. I will keep thinking. thank you though. :)

well you could just add a blurred image that looks like a cannon ball traveling at a high velocity. so you wouldn't need a lot of frames for the cannonball(s).
