+1 for enhancing comments. Not really, just to make you feel better. Bertrand Russell is better than all your science fiction put together.

Ah. The philisophical implications are numberous. Why not just do your best to prevent any of this from happening? Hell, in 1947 she knew about nuclear weapons. I think she was mealy illustrating the lack of humility in the construction/ orwhatever of universe has. It can be overcome with time. I don't think we as a species have a f*cking chance though, all in all. Regardless, just enjoy what you've been given (or have taken from others), if you can.

If a singularity does not happen, this is our fate. Everything you do or say today does not matter when everyone is dead in the future. No one will be around to remember you except alien archaeologists (if they happen to even exist)

Don't worry, you're just passing out of the world as we know it and into the otherworld, a nightmare realm covered in blood and rust, inhabited only with the twisted creatures ripped from your own tortured psyche. But don't worry.

Wow, never even heard of those before. Stunningly realistic. And Chesley did the "world ending in a ball of fire" thing long before Doctor Who, so that's cool.

"there is no God, no universe, no human race, no earthly life, no heaven, no hell. It is all a dream - a grotesque and foolish dream. Nothing exists but you. And you are but a thought - a vagrant thought, a useless thought, a homeless thought, wandering forlorn among the empty eternities!" - concluding lines in Mark Twain's The Mysterious Stranger

People freak out when they see this kind of thing. The "all is lost" kind of scenario. However the Christian faith believes that if you are saved you will never see this scenario. The book of revelations says that the end of the world will come like "a thief in the night" those who believe and have been saved will be called up to Heaven (yeah...dead) and the rest will be suffering the oats they have sown-if you will and "beg for death but death will never come" (downvoat bc of religion)

I knew I had heard this music before. I thought it was more Final Fantasy music but if its from Chrono Cross that's even better. I cant remember that game or find it anymore sigh...
October 3rd, 2007
(0)
Well, it's all "Square-Enix" music now, but they've always had some great VGM composers. It's neat nowadays that much of this era of game music ends up being played...by an entire orchestra at big venues. But for the site maker- GJ on making the site sync with the very appropriate music. Without it, I'm not sure I'd have stayed to see the pics. With it, 4'd.

In one sense it could be upsetting to think about, but sometimes the impermanence of our existence can be reassuring. None of our mistakes will be forever. None of our sadnesses or tragedies for last for all time.

October 3rd, 2007

it doesn't matter if they vote or not. they create a "norm," regardless of the fact that they downvote or not. if what you say is true, then upvoters shouldn't be allowed to vote either.

BOOOO! I dont get the point of this guy he must of had some chip on his shoulder In the era where we think that every thing east of france wants to bomb us into a crater in the pacific I"I think nows the perfect time to pull a bunch of one in a million chance scenarios out of my *ss draw em and show everybody and then Im gonna tell em its happening tommorow at once non stop. Lets get crackin." and y r u doin nthis and gettin a 5 for this skitah! I think I ve done better than this.

Also, many of these pictures are actually still TOO optimistic. They assume that humanity will survive that long.
October 3rd, 2007

1'd for desecrating CC music by putting it in something as f*ggy and pretentious as this. Also, solar phenomena do not work that way.
October 4th, 2007

Overdramatic and a complete misuse of this format. This is, however, not among the most objectionable things on the site, so its score is doubled.

why is it that when a sun approaches the earth we get pulled off the surface rather than, say, incinerated?
October 4th, 2007
(0)
More likely the tidal forces (i.e. gravity) would rip the entire planet apart. Having people levitate into space but nothing else gets pulled up is so obviously flawed.
October 4th, 2007

If you look at the painting again, it isn't just people, hell, you see a cruise liner floating into space somewhere on the left.
