To start, i think these kinds of YTMND's are awesome. To those who 1'd for not being funny, go die in a hole. If you wanna be a unphilosophical retard who doesn't know a dam thing, go ahead. Personally if its ENTERTAINING, it ought to get some credit. --- My money is on nuclear warfare, though im a philosophical person and think the other ones are plausible, i would say in the political age we are in now. All it takes is a hairpin trigger. You might combat this idea by saying we have missile defense systems
I also think that we will probably find a way around all of this. The human race has survived all sorts of unlivable circumstances during their evolution to this point. So what says we won't keep accelerating? In like 50-80 years, we will probably be outside the galaxy. As you guys may already know, technology is accelerating exponentially. So we will be doing amazing things in a short amount of time over the next couple decades (conceivably). Nonetheless, i like all the ones that happen over long periods.
Some of the ways the Earth could end went by too far before I could read it, but I think I got the gist of em. I don't wanna watch it again to catch it cuz this thing is so long XD. GJ tho man. As for the Mass Insanity/Suicide ones does that mean that we all might go emo? Or are emos the first examples of these insane people?
Well apparently I read very fast. However, I think society will be its own demise. In the world we live in today everything is wrong, bad or dangerous for some reason or another. People won't help broken down motorists because it could be a scam. No matter what you eat or drink it is unhealthy for you in some way. Sex is evil. Racism. Sexism. Religion helps the government and the government helps religion. In one way or another they want to deny you human instincts.
As time goes on with the changes in society, morals and what is acceptable instead of evolving and innovating we will be blinded by fear of every little thing and be unable to cope with any new concept or way of thinking. Reverse evolution. Do yourselves a favor and raise your kids to think and ask questions. Before the world becomes to dumb and afraid to think or question.
Not necessarly. It is also possible to establish breeding programs for people with "superior" genes to increase their reproduction and thus to create a separate human gene pool, "clean" from all influence considered negative. As soon as the current state of civilisation ends (which will most likely happen sooner or later), natural selection will do the rest (if you believe in it ;-)
Is it wrong that I found this incredibly entertaining? Anyway, I'm not sure that religious end of the world scenarios should be on here, since they usually include a new beginning, eternal life for the righteous, and so on. And even if you don’t have any religious beliefs, there’s no reason to assume that the human race or even the universe itself will necessarily come to an end. We know too little to establish precedence… and those things are kind of unprecedented. Or maybe we know too much.
Nice choice of images.
Anyway, even though I'm not religious, I have to admit the apocalyptic scenarios proposed by most religions are rather... romantic, if not poetic. Who wouldn't appreciate the sight of mythical creatures destroying our world; angels, demons, horsemen, beasts, whatever you want to call them. Hey, at least it wouldn't be our fault. Not directly, that is.
My perception of "All A Dream": What if you're all constructs of my own mind... Did I create this universe to my specifications? Did I build this while you are all just puppets circling around me, fulfilling my desires even though you don't know it? If I die, do you all die too? What truely is conciousness, but a collection of thoughts and ideas gathered in your brain and synapse? I know for a fact I exist merely because I'm typing this now, but I have no evidence you exist. The human mind is too complex.
I don't think the pole flip would be as devastating as suggested, but it would definitely make navigation interesting for a while. I'm still not convinced on the man-made global warming stuff. Mars has warmed by 15 degrees in the same period scientists blame the industrial revolution for our own warming. There sure ain't humans THERE to make greenhouse gases. I'd probably believe it more if there weren't so many Hollywood/Algore/Greenpeace freaks on board with the theory.
When said people have alterior motives, yes. Discredit or credit by association is how many theories and ideas are either rejected or accepted. How many people question Stephen Hawking's theories? Also, I implicitly discredit the global warming theories and ideas from those who offer no solution to our current "problem." Why is it that those of us who don't believe the hype are so often called ignorant? Seriously, it's f*cking annoying. The burden of proof lies with the accusors.
AI with the capability of a human mind cannot take over the f*cking world. If that was possible, A PERSON WOULD HAVE DONE IT BY NOW. Also, it would have to be in control of some sort of large military asset in order to prevent a janitor from unplugging it. But even then, no general has taken over the entire world.
I disagree with the conclusion.
If some unforeseen disaster doesn't wipe out humanity in a few centuries, then I would venture to say that we will never be totally wiped out. Even if a disaster like that struck Earth, once we have colonies on other planets, in other solar systems, in other galaxies, etc... then it really won't threaten the future of humanity. Some exceptions apply.
I don't think you realise just how fragile life is and just how little time humanity has actually existed.

I'll add another one - Canary Islands. Some scientists speculate that the volcanic region could be the source of the next "Mega Tsunami". The western half of La Palma island is structurally unstable enough that another large volcano could send an estimated 500 billion tonnes of land mass into the ocean at once. In theory, this could result in waves hundreds of meters in height, devastating European and American cities that border the Atlantic Ocean.
This sounds like JRPG boss music. Which kind of made me giggle about the Megaflare an Rogue Black Hole since that sounds like some stupid hit your whole party spell you see in those games. Anyway if I had to pick one I would say End of Days cause the Four Horsemen are pretty freaking cool. Though I remember in an episode of Hercules he beats them. Which didn't make sense cause greek legends didn't have anything to do with the Bible.
