Exposure to sunlight may increase the risk of many types of skin cancers. The FDA has the most stringent drug testing standards in the world. In fact, most people argue that the extensive testing saves too many lives due to side effects at the cost of saving lives due to less certain but reasonably well tested products. But, rather than actually figuring out what the actual risks are that they're telling you about, you simply repeated them as if it were automatic cancer. There is no cure-all. Deal with it.
I am a biologist, and I approve of this message. The American as well as the European and Japanese drug laws are very strict, and it is almost impossible that any substance that is more harmful than beneficial reaches the market. Every drug is applied to thousands (!) of cell cultures, animals and volunteers before it may be sold. There are quite clear guidelines how to proceed in drug development like e.g. the Good Clinical Practice. Anyone who breaks these rules will be prosecuted and punished.
It may have a legit use, just to a very very small market. The problem is they advertise (Europe and Japan don't, just US) to hundreds of millions of people when the number who's condition justify the risk it is a fraction of 1%. The only way it makes financial sense to have an extremely long, expensive ad for it is if people who don't really need it get it anyway. Plenty of doctors are well compensated to make sure if you "ask your doctor about drugx" you get it.
ewok, you're probably right about that. I'm a European and I have never seen any advertisement for Celecox here. However, although your argument about the drug industry trying to sell it to people who don't really need it seems logical to me, the doctors who prescribe it are the ones who are responsible and legally actionable, and not the drug industry which, though this may sound harsh, is only responsible for the profits of their shareholders and the obeying of legal standards, and not for the well-being
I think the joke was "deez pillz ar bad for joo lol wy anybody take dem?", as that's the immediate reaction every person who has ever watched one of these commercials has. There's also a reason that they tell you all of the major side effects: so that people don't do exactly what ewok was talking about... go after pills like candy. If you don't need the pill, then you probably don't want the side effects. If you need the pill, most side effects are a step up from your current state. Nausea? Please!
Also if you know anything about healthcare in countries with private healthcare systems you'll know that healthcare expenses rise exponentially as people age and/or become seriously ill. All of the money is made off of the sick and dying because they will pay exorbitant amounts of money because the alternatives are an excruciatingly painful death or simply a sooner death. Advertising to 1% of the population is smart because that 1% of the population spends 60% of the money on healthcare. Read a book.
What is crushingly ineffective about the pharmaceutical industry is that many of these drugs with ridiculous side effects have dietetic and nutritional remedies that cost a fraction of the price. For example, pilot studies have shown that fish oil reduces LDL cholesterol as well as statins, but it's less likely to be further researched or prescribed. Also, older, well-studied, frequently prescribed drugs are often safer for patients, but drug companies will push what they have patent protections on.
Do not use Celebrex if you own allen wrenches, gerbil feeders, toilet seats, electric heaters, trash compactors, juice extractors, shower rods, water meters, walkie-talkies, copper wires, safety goggles, radial tires, BB pellets, rubber mallets, fans, dehumidifiers, picture hangers, paper cutters, waffle irons, window shutters, paint removers, window louvers, masking tape, plastic gutters, kitchen faucets, folding tables, weather stripping, jumper cables, hooks, tackle, grout, spackle, power foggers,..
spoons, ladles, pesticides for fumigation, high-performance lubrication, metal roofing, water proofing, multi-purpose insulation, air compressors, brass connectors, wrecking chisels, smoke detectors, tire gauges, hamster cages, thermostats, bug deflectors, trailer hitch demagnetizers, automatic circumcisers, tennis rackets, angle brackets, duracells, energizers, soffit panels, circuit brakers, vacuum cleaners, coffee makers, calculators, generators, or matching salt and pepper shakers.
In rare cases, Celebrex may also help in causing comical muscular seizures, the sudden urge to watch Keanu Reeves movies, acid trips, touching someone's hands for stupid reasons, uncontrollable disliking of weasels, halitosis, nasal elephantiasis, pneumonultramicroscopicsilicovulcanoconiosis (yes, it's a real disease), explosive diarrhea, your entire party dying of cholera and consequently not making it to Oregon, the princess moving to another castle, and internal rusting.
The phrase "go go gadget" may not work while using Celebrex. Talk to your doctor and slap him if he does not give you Celebrex. Celebrex is not responsible for any(DM) chainsaw massacres. Patients with special cases, or those who have voted for Ted Stevens, may need to increase the dosage beyond the recommended amount. Actual size of Celebrex may vary, which may lead to death.
