The audio/visual aspect of HALO is likely more fun than the gameplay IMO.

Halo brought to the console gamers what many other games had already brought to PC; accessible, enjoyable online multiplayer. Developers want to make a "Halo Killer" because Halo has ludicrously high sales, and even falsely claiming that your game might be a Halo killer will probably boost your sales (at least amongst parents who don't know any better).

Well, a clearly superior game should garner more sales. Now obviously, Halo has great appeal for some reason. If it was a "mediocre shooter", no one would play it. Hype only goes so far. And guess what? Halo's hype started somewhere. It was a fun accessible console shooter game. If you could name a better console shooter I am all ears. I know first hand that the Halo series has gameplay appeal, because I have played all that has been offered so far. This doesn't mean everyone will like it, but it isn't crap

I hate when arguments boil down to "oh well riddle me this, how come ____ is the number one best seller/makes trillions if it sucks so bad!?" Never a good argument. I guess all top 40 music instantly superior because the artists sell tons of albums. It couldn't at all be because of clever marketing and a lazy public ...

Don't mean to argue, but both Counter-Strike and Half-Life 2 are better shooters, and both are on the Xbox. Half-Life 2 had an incredibly good single-player that beats Halo's single player offering IMO, but it's fantastic multiplayer wasn't ported over the the Xbox. Counter-Strike's port to the Xbox sold fairly well (Not better than Halo or Halo 2, or course), and I believe anybody who has played both would say Counter-Strike has better multiplayer.

There is a reason Halo garners so much hatred. No one dislikes a game that really sucks with so much intensity. If it was universally excepted to be a sh*tty game, It wouldn't be as popular as it is today. I have also played many FPS shooters on the PC including Half-life 1 + 2, Fear,Stalker, UT2004, UT99, etc. And I still think the original Halo is one of the greatest games of all time.
