I don't recognize the reference. I could infer quite a few based on the information presented to me and the context, but not one leads to lulz. Guess I better put the book down and go bone up on my pop culture.

Nothing about the combination of image and sound here references the snl skit. The sound does that by itself. By your logic you could combine any image of anything being struck, sync'd to the cow bell beat , and call it a reference to that sketch. I assumed, since this has such a high rating, there must be some OTHER reference...a funny, witty reference only those who've seen this movie would understand. If there isn't, I'm dropping my vote to a 1.

I like this better than the original. In fact, if it weren't for Walken, that wouldn't have been a joke at all. The real joke is "Walken does something", which happened to be cowbell. Here, it's belittling human suffering, and that is always good.
