I presume you downloaded the SVCD version instead of the Xvid? It's been a few years since I've downloaded an SVCD, but this program http://www.vcdgear.com/ should allow you to extract the MPG from the bin file. One way to make gifs is to manually go frame by frame in PowerDVD and capture the frame. Another good way is to use VirtualDub. PM if you have difficulties.
Audition and Audacity extract sounds from avis, movs, etc. if the sound source is mp3. Often, dvdrips use AC3 sound which requires one to extract the .ac3 file from the xvid with VirtualDub and then converting the ac3 file into mp3 with a program called AC3 Decoder. For DVDs, I use a program called DVD Audio Extractor.
