I really really like that mix. The site was pretty sweet too; screw these guys that say it's not original. Personally I just want the site to rock.

This is good enough to be sponsored by someone other than the site's creator
April 22nd, 2007
(-1)
It's a video clip. It's good enough to be purchased as part of a motion picture, which it is. What it is not is a show of Teknorat's creativity.
April 22nd, 2007
(5)
So by your logic http://yourethemannowdog.ytmnd.com/ is even less creative? Get real.

It's not exactly a shining example of creativity. It was, however, original. Can't say the same for this. You didn't do jack sh*t. Get real.
April 22nd, 2007
(3)
90% of YTMNDs are f*cking obnoxious and idiotic. Sometimes a simple, yet well thought out site works. This is a nice combo of an interesting image, catchy song, and catchy title. I'll take this over something like a "Stephanie plays WOW! LAWL!!" site. Original does not always equal good.
April 22nd, 2007
(-2)
Good point. I never said it was good. You two are merely diverting away from the issue at hand: the quality of this site. Original does not always equal good, but unoriginal always equals bad. QED.
April 22nd, 2007
(0)
Actually, I addressed the quality of this site, and the reasons I like it. You can have all three elements I listed, and still not have it work. This is kind of cool. It's not ground breaking, sure, but how many sites on this hunk of sh*t website are? I understand your point, I just think this is better than you are giving it credit for.
April 22nd, 2007
(2)
How is yourethemannowdog.ytmnd.com any more original than my site Korf? Now that you've gone and made your point explain it.
April 22nd, 2007
(-1)
Alright, you're right, the original ytmnd was garbage and completely unoriginal. Happy? That's not my opinion, but I'll accept that if you want. It doesn't really matter. What is important is that THIS SITE is completely garbage and unoriginal. It's an unedited clip from a movie set to some techno. I can't think of anything less creative that you could possibly make. This site, regardless of what you think of the original ytmnd, is, in my opinion, worthless and unoriginal. Thus, it is a bad site.
April 22nd, 2007
(1)
The clip is edited. If you don't like the site just vote accordingly and say so. But spare me your whiny "it's not original content" crap. Go make sites you enjoy and think others will.
April 22nd, 2007
(0)
Actually, my point, really, is this: "It's a video clip. It's good enough to be purchased as part of a motion picture, which it is. What it is not is a show of Teknorat's creativity." Not sure what else you were thinking, but that is in fact my position.
April 22nd, 2007
(1)
I was thinking I could stir up some discussion. ;)
April 24th, 2007
(0)
i was thinking Korf always makes good points.
April 26th, 2007
(3)
"What it is not is a show of Teknorat's creativity." I disagree entirely. What were Jackson Pollock's paintings before they were on display? Tubes of paint and a canvas, sometimes simply a bedsheet. Neither of those two things strike me as being particularly riveting but when he combined them in just the right way, it made people step back and say, "Wow, this evokes a feeling." And that's exactly what Teknorat has done here; I love it. All of art is combining elements to make a whole > sum of parts.
April 28th, 2007
(1)
That's a very poor analogy. A more appropriate analogy would be someone taking a pair of scissors to a Pollock, cutting two squares out of it, pasting them together on another canvas, setting it to music, and calling it an original work. I don't think the critics would appreciate it as much.
April 28th, 2007
(2)
sometimes, all you need is a good little clip w/ some matching music to put you in a good mood, or to get you thinking about things. This site does just that. Teknorat the site is good despite what Korf says.
April 29th, 2007
(1)
I disagree with Korf. Perhaps Teknorat's site didn't take a great deal of skill to put together. It does, however, have a great expressive quality to it. "Originality" vs. "expressive quality?" I'll take expressive quality. Korf, many of your sites are what might be called "original," but their messages seems muddled, confusing, or uninteresting, and they don't evoke very powerful feelings and are not as singularly evocative as what Teknorat has done here. My two cents.
June 26th, 2007
(0)
Don't praise the guy carrying the boom box, it's that simple.
April 22nd, 2007
(2)
This is cool. But how much credit can you take for putting these two together? Artsy ytmnd sites only work if you've made the picture or song.
April 22nd, 2007
(1)
I disagree strongly. Partially because many of my favorite artsy YTMND's have no Author made content, (ie. http://psyvision.ytmnd.com/) and partly because I put a great deal of effort into this. It's not just a matter of sticking an image and a sound together.

I DISAGREE STRONGLY.
April 22nd, 2007
(1)
I disagree with your disagreement.
April 22nd, 2007
(3)
debating the "artistic" merit of any YTMND is absurd. we're on a website with 700,000 or so pastiches and, at most, a few dozen genuine attempts at "original" content. the high road of artistic sensibility here seems to be either poorly remixing an mp3, sneaking cats into animated GIFs and sites with noise so loud it hurts your ears. this pleasant, soothing YTMND is more than i expected to find here today by a long shot.

As a poet, I would say there's a huge difference between finding something and creating something. But since I'm also a photographer, I understand showing your perspective to the world, even if nothing was created. Point taken, but I still stick with my 3. :-/

it is not just a matter of sticking an image and a sound together, but this ytmnd seems to draw its strength from the source materials rather than from the creativity of combining them. the lesson for everyone is that the stronger your sources the harder you must strive to put your own stamp upon them.

I would only change 1 thing, swap the song for another techno song by Rank 1, called "Such is Life" (quite proper since the name of the site is Such is life).

I agree, this means something... this is important.
April 22nd, 2007
(2)
Yah it is meant to convey a particular emotion/feeling.
April 22nd, 2007
(0)
It indeed does so, and its sad that some just can't see that in a YTMND. All of this "WTF F*GGY SHORT FILM" does nothing, you're adding a fourth dimention (emotion), and it makes quite a powerful YTMND. $42.42 well spent. I could watch/listen to this for hours.
(3)
"And in the pile of rubble that is YTMND, its out of place." Well, you got the pile of rubble part right, at least in terms of what your last seven ytmnd's were. Same title and picture. Way to go you f*cking spammer

I never said the meaning made it important, I just said it was both meaningful and important, lawl.

Its intriguing that, looking at my favorites list half a year later, there is still (and always probably always will be) a debate as to "unfunny" ytmnds. HTPAT II (Animal Crossing is Tragic) tried to convey an emotion, but did it wrong. I still like this ytmnd.

This is good. I know he didn't make any element of the site, but he put them together. As a whole they take on a new form which he presented to us. Don't be douche bags, pretending that absolutes are the only routes. Appreciate something for what it is, or isn't. A composer simply puts certain pressure changes together, so on and so forth.
