Actually, I addressed the quality of this site, and the reasons I like it. You can have all three elements I listed, and still not have it work. This is kind of cool. It's not ground breaking, sure, but how many sites on this hunk of sh*t website are? I understand your point, I just think this is better than you are giving it credit for.
Alright, you're right, the original ytmnd was garbage and completely unoriginal. Happy? That's not my opinion, but I'll accept that if you want. It doesn't really matter. What is important is that THIS SITE is completely garbage and unoriginal. It's an unedited clip from a movie set to some techno. I can't think of anything less creative that you could possibly make. This site, regardless of what you think of the original ytmnd, is, in my opinion, worthless and unoriginal. Thus, it is a bad site.
"What it is not is a show of Teknorat's creativity." I disagree entirely. What were Jackson Pollock's paintings before they were on display? Tubes of paint and a canvas, sometimes simply a bedsheet. Neither of those two things strike me as being particularly riveting but when he combined them in just the right way, it made people step back and say, "Wow, this evokes a feeling." And that's exactly what Teknorat has done here; I love it. All of art is combining elements to make a whole > sum of parts.
I disagree with Korf. Perhaps Teknorat's site didn't take a great deal of skill to put together. It does, however, have a great expressive quality to it. "Originality" vs. "expressive quality?" I'll take expressive quality. Korf, many of your sites are what might be called "original," but their messages seems muddled, confusing, or uninteresting, and they don't evoke very powerful feelings and are not as singularly evocative as what Teknorat has done here. My two cents.
debating the "artistic" merit of any YTMND is absurd. we're on a website with 700,000 or so pastiches and, at most, a few dozen genuine attempts at "original" content. the high road of artistic sensibility here seems to be either poorly remixing an mp3, sneaking cats into animated GIFs and sites with noise so loud it hurts your ears. this pleasant, soothing YTMND is more than i expected to find here today by a long shot.
it is not just a matter of sticking an image and a sound together, but this ytmnd seems to draw its strength from the source materials rather than from the creativity of combining them. the lesson for everyone is that the stronger your sources the harder you must strive to put your own stamp upon them.
This is good. I know he didn't make any element of the site, but he put them together. As a whole they take on a new form which he presented to us. Don't be douche bags, pretending that absolutes are the only routes. Appreciate something for what it is, or isn't. A composer simply puts certain pressure changes together, so on and so forth.
