yeah limited edition dvds, cost like 80 bucks for the set... scenes shoulda been in there to begin with but im sure people would have complained the movie was too long since they already were to begin with with the scenes cut out for the theatrical version

yeah it sucks (luckily I only bought the first LOTR when it first came out on DVD before waiting so long to buy the rest, i.e. this set), but its normal for companies, directors, whatever to milk you out of money by doing this sort of sh*t :P

Just tested it on my pc and it syncs up alright in IE, but the loop doesn't sync after. However it loops alright the first few times in Firefox. Keep in mind I had to cut some frames out as well to sync the Messenger's mouth with his speech as best as I could since the actual DVD is off with the sync even before ripping it.
