Eratosthennes actually cal, culated the circumfrence of the Earth 1700 years earlier (he was off by less that 5%). Good site tho. People had not reverted to the former belief by Colombus' time. Columbus discovering the Earth's roundness was a myth propagated by American author Washington Irving in the 1800s. And even if people had thought the earth was flat, Columbus didn't prove jack sh*t, except that there was another landmass to the west.
