You put a lot of effort into this. Unfortunately, a MIDI realization just sounds too mechanical to be musical. Even if you can't get to a piano, you need to yourself playing this on a keyboard. Record it slow and then speed it up.

True, MIDI can only take you so far, but the piano sound on here is decent enough to be played back in my opinion. This is actually arranged for two pianos, and while it would be very awesome to play sometime it would also be REALLY hard (note some of the ridiculous chromatic runs). Still though, maybe I'll give it a shot sometime...

the problem with midi's is that they are too perfect... they lack articulation...

You have skills! Bravo! (not to be smart ass, butt wouldn't that be a Sonata?)

Add applauses to the end of it to get this fav'd
November 22nd, 2006

It needs another instrument to be a concerto, technically, but cool anyway.

YAY! I was waiting for another one. Awesometimes!

I love this idea, and the arrangement is great. You need to clean up the MIDI pedal markings to cut down on the bleed between chord changes (and generally some of the chord changes). I also have some great applause samples for you if you'd like them to go with PaRappa's comment. Great work!
November 22nd, 2006

What I meant by "and generally some of the chord changes" is thatyou have a bunch of minor chords where you should have major and vice-versa.

This has been done before, and I know this is sequenced, but the composition was great, in my opinion. It's too bad I can't play this well, so I'll just stick with my custom version on piano, heh.
November 22nd, 2006

Did you actually play this on the piano? I don't know much about piano, but the beginning is impressive!

Why is Doc playing a song about himself? -2 for not using Mac like you should have. Mac's bike was stolen; he should be playing the song.

Thats awesome man. Nice programming, although applying a humanisation algorithm (kinda the opposite of quantization) would make it sound a bit less mechanical.

I probably would like this more if Smoothmedia hadn't already done it and I didn't hate this song.

More expertly done than the smoothmedia trailblazing original, 5 for his originality and saying "punchout theme" or "NSMB" instead of "n*gg*," 4 for you and this ytmnd's inherent racism.

I don't care how many times this song has been remixed; when it's done this well, it gets a 5.

Alot of inexperienced musicians think arpeggios compensate for a lack of musical ideas. Like you just did there.

Don't take any credit away from crazycomposer simply because I made a YTMND Pianist site for NSMB. This version is far superior to mine, and serves a different purpose. First of all, my version was simple for a reason....so that I could easily teach others to play it even if they can't read music. Second, the sound I used for mine is me actually playing a piano, while this sounds like its been put together by software. I couldn't dream of composing something as intricate as this for the piano. 5 stars!

would 4 with a better image. musical versions of ytmnd fad music isnt as impressive as it once was.

WOW, this got a lot of views/comments/votes in the last few days since I've been able to look at it. Thanks for the (mostly) positive feedback, it's much appreciated! That being said, let me address a few things: Yes, I realize that this is an old fad that has basically been done to death, but it's a fun one and I've had this idea for a while, so why not just put it out there. Seems like most people enjoyed it fairly well. (there's more...)
November 24th, 2006

Also, to robot-god's comment, I actually agree with you and get annoyed with people who do that too much - BUT, keep in mind that this is only an arrangement of a very very simple Nintendo theme, so really there isn't a whole lot that you can do with it other than add embellishments to spice it up.
November 24th, 2006
(0)
And lastly, to thePlease's intellectually stimulating, thoughtful, and clearly well-informed rebuttal: I did not steal the introduction from somewhere else, I wrote it myself. *gasp* Believe or not, I CAN do other things that just Nintendo remixes! And when push comes to shove, YTMND is just about getting a few cheap laughs, and frankly, I find it both amusing and sad that people can get this worked up over a YTMND site. So thanks to those who get the joke and are able to just enjoy it for what it is!

Clearly put a lot of effort into this but it has been done many times when the NSMB fad was fresh.
