reminds me of the time i poured water on top of an old mac at school, the screen turned every color you can imagine then it shut off. 10 minutes later it randomly turned back on and had a giant "?" in the middle of the screen, one of the funniest things ive ever seen.

Theoretically as long as you let it air dry for a sufficient amount of time, as long as it isnt on when you pour water on it, it would still work.

He was probably just trying to get the dust out of it. Its okay to give components a wash with plain water as long as you absolutely make sure that they are NOT wet at all when you plug them back in. Let them dry for a day or two, and make sure the PCB does not happen to absorb the water. That would be a disaster...
