for the vocal- I took the start of Living in the City, which starts with just vocal & synth, and eq'd out as much synth as possible. Then I found parts of Stevie's singing that sounded like the letters. I had to piece together some of them, the Y is the start of one word and the end of another- not "why." the D is the end of "pretty." etc etc. no pitch or time shifting.
