random 5
September 16th, 2006
(1)
I was wondering when someone would find that website.
September 16th, 2006
(1)
awesome
September 16th, 2006
(1)
you have too much time on your hands or you are truly "metal". I don't think you can copyright a riff.
September 16th, 2006
(0)
The thing is, all of those bands copied from Doom, not vice versa. Doom music is the original... pretty much
September 16th, 2006
(0)
Yes, I do have too much time on my hands. It took me a little over 2 and a half hours to do this. I was hoping people would like the NEDM, it's just a joke.
September 16th, 2006
(0)
Wow, awesome job, especially the joke at the end, made me actually lol. I might suggest to work on the sycning towards the end but other than that outstanding work.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
there you go man.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
nice
September 17th, 2006
(-1)
Alice in Chains rules, but I can't 5 a site with NEDM in it in good conscience. Sorry.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
People might have lowered their vote for the NEDM. but you got my 5
September 17th, 2006
(-3)
-2 for nedm
September 8th, 2007
(3)
Yeah, subtracting 2 stars from your score because you don't like 3% of it? That makes alot of sense, right?
September 17th, 2006
(0)
"In good conscience"? What, is voting a 5 for a site with NEDM in it immoral?
September 17th, 2006
(0)
its a pretty well known fact that Doom gets its music from Metal bands. but 5 anyways for making a nice compilation :D
September 17th, 2006
(0)
HAH i guessed Big Gun right
September 17th, 2006
(0)
yes I waited through the whole thing just for the nedm
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Almost if not everyone that worked on the first two games were huge metal fans. And Trent Reznor helped do the music fot Doom 2 and Quake.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
5 for the "surprise" ending and also c*cks
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Awesome job. Watched the whole thing.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
I think it should be pointed out that I'm not saying that Doom "stole" music from the other bands. Heck, most people already KNOW that the music is similar, I just put it in one, long compilation for people to listen to. That's all.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
NEDMd bitches
September 17th, 2006
(0)
not a surprise at all jackass, you dont credit NEDM because it gives it away
September 17th, 2006
(-1)
Almost lowered the score to 3 when I saw NEDM.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
good *ss job!
September 17th, 2006
(0)
btw there was another doom site with the first song you played, and it was alot better than the metalica thing you heard
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Zkilla: are you happy now? :)
September 17th, 2006
(0)
nice dude! I just beat the game today wooO!! i noticed all the songs that they borrowed. I'm seeing Alice in Chains en concerto!
September 17th, 2006
(0)
WIN, It needed the NEDM, nicely donw
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Not the first game to feature metal in it's soundtrack..Carmageddon features many Fear Factory tracks sans vocals, Body Hammer, Demanufacture and Zero Signal..that being said Id software has great taste in music.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Good. Those songs were almost the exact same...but aren't spme of those songs made AFTER Doom?
September 17th, 2006

question is, who cares? They are influenced by the metal of their time. ill give u 3 for nedm and the metal tho.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
zorgzorg: "E1M1 sounds a lot more like Metallica's Master of Puppets" - exactly what I thought.
September 17th, 2006

September 17th, 2006
(0)
Blech, that was a horrid copy/paste on my part, please note I know it's not Megadeath but rather Megadeth, I blame the idiots over at newdoom.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
I totally saw that NEDM coming. Even so, the music comparison was great, could have been flashier though. But considering the amount of work this took, 5 anyway.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
dlpriest: There are some songs that many would say are very similar, but I thought they weren't horribly so, therefore, I didn't add them. However, I'll have to look at some of those songs you pasted after, uh...'acquiring' them and finding out myself.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Instant 5
September 17th, 2006
(0)
I didn't know all of these, and you obviously put effort into this. I saw the NEDM coming from "one more thing", though, but I'm not going to deduct points for that. :P Ka-fived.
September 17th, 2006

5 for the doom music. Fav for NEDM
September 17th, 2006

September 17th, 2006
(0)
Was gonna downvote but it was saved by the NEDM at the end
September 17th, 2006
(0)
So what you're saying is 12 seconds of NEDM negates nearly 6 minutes of Doom music? Hmm...could someone please explain the logic as to why people feel the need to downvote SIMPLY because of a quick NEDM reference?
November 4th, 2008
(-1)
"So what you're saying is 12 seconds of NEDM negates nearly 6 minutes of Doom music?" Yes, it does. :3
September 17th, 2006
(0)
I was going to 4 or 3 for being way too long in presenting its info, but its very thorough. I was drumming along to "South of Heaven" :) Oh, and excellent NEDM usage.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
NEDM was the only good part.
September 17th, 2006

RAAAAAAAAWWWWRRR EVERYTHING WILL BE METAL!!!

worked for me in firefox.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Decimaster: you've apparently never seen http://nedminvestigation.ytmnd.com/, have you? If you did, then you'd know that NEDM and those idiots really have little to do with each other, and are only indirectly related.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
alright. you know your metal \m/.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Lmfao, I only noticed E1M1 as No Remorse, I didn't think about any of the others. You get the Six Star! ****** But I can only give you five here =(

That was awesome. Thank you for your hard work. NEDM is dead. Long-live NEDM.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Points for using No Remorse instead of Master of Puppets.
September 17th, 2006

Good work. But there's really very little original music.

what are you trying to convince us of in this ytmnd? that they used speed metal in doom? YOOU FCUKING FAIL!
September 17th, 2006
(2)
You don't read, do you? I said they were similar and that's what I was trying to convince people of. My words aren't really the main point of the site, the music is. Lol, downvoters looking for an excuse to downvote.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Only good metal band was Black Sabby. Pantera is panterrible, AC/DC is GayC/DC, and Metallica... well, we all know about them. Good work, however.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
Maybe that was the intention?
September 17th, 2006

Thankyou for lying about the NEDM!

September 17th, 2006

Also, the riff on E1M1 is in Pink Floyd's "Echoes", believe. Probably somewhere in the beginning
September 17th, 2006
(0)
The sound for this is from an mp3 from I believe the doomworld forums called "Bobby Prince is a Filthy Thief", as obvious as that was.
September 17th, 2006

Wow, I only knew about the Metallica thing.

December 14th, 2007

Except it's not a wav. It's an MP3. There is NO WAY POSSIBLE a WAV of this length would fit the YTMND length requirements.

September 17th, 2006

Some are more convincing than others. Partly what it proves is that a lot of metal all sounds the same...
September 17th, 2006
(0)
"The thing is, all of those bands copied from Doom, not vice versa. Doom music is the original... pretty much" the song south of heaven was made in 1988, doom was made in 1993. So i guess Slayer just got some help from mullet man then eh?
September 17th, 2006

5'd for pissing off a few users by adding NEDM at the end

I know where you got this from, but there is one song missing, Megadeth - Hangar 18 (DOOM 2 Map 1).
September 17th, 2006

It'd be awesome to play those classic doom levels with the respective real songs playing.
September 17th, 2006

the similarity between Doom and Slayer's "South of Heaven" is amazing...that's hilarious that they might have gotten the drum fills from Doom
September 17th, 2006

for "E2M1" i was expecting to hear the first verse of "master of puppets" rather than ac dc. but other than that great job. pantera ftw
September 17th, 2006
(0)
One thing I would like to say is I've actually worked with Bobby Prince in the past, who did the MIDIs for Doom: He's very, very open about all of what you just said. It's an outright known fact that Doom music is a mixture of a few seconds rolled into one per song, taking elements of each - if you played the whole versions of each song you'll notice they deviate quite a bit. Odds are you'll even find multiple songs borrowed in a single Doom song! That said, thanks for the listing because it gives me some good Doom-style music to track down.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
been done before, and better, and fyi those arent simliar songs, they ARE those songs, its no secret

Hey dingus. Bobby Prince (Composer for all the Classic Doom music) admit he sampled many songs too a legal limmit.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
also, Barunson is wrong. many of those songs came out between 1985 and 1992. Doom came out in 1993.
September 17th, 2006
(0)
this is superb. my question to you is what program do you use to compress all that audio and how big is the filesize in the end?

September 18th, 2006
(0)
I personally can't stand NEDM, but it doesn't take away from this at all. Don't cave into these bitches. Good work, though you could have done without some of the earlier examples which were lose similarities and just add to the length.

I'm with you foxxir. I would have noticed these, but I never played Doom with the music on. It was much creepier that way.
September 18th, 2006
(0)
Another thing you'll notice is that pretty much every Doom and Doom 2 song uses some variation of the 12 bar blues progression. It was definitely some of Bobby Prince's less creative work.

i seem to recall id admitting to the mimicry, as carmack and romero are (were, at least) big metalheads. their original concept was to have actual bands on doom but of course a little start-up company couldn't afford the royalties and wasn't notable enough to get them to do it for free. am i the only one that played quake 1 (scored entirely by trent reznor) ?
September 18th, 2006

Great compilation, they really sound alike. I knew this for something but had never seen a comparison like this. Great ending with NEDM.

Congratulations. You showed that a game 10+ years old used 'metal' music. This has been shown so many times it would be impossible to count.

Doom music made this cool. Also, surprise NEDM makes for extra win.

some of those "bobby prince is a filthy thief" songs are just plain WRONG. "silent scream" by slayer is not only nothing like any song ever used in doom, it is also just an awful, awful song. and "regular people" by pantera is a good song, but again, not used in doom. not even close, other that the intro being similar to the doom intermission screen, but if u think that's a ripoff, you gotta be kidding me, in that case, 75% of metal songs ever MADE were ripped off by that song. "call of ktulu" by metallica is just reaching. same goes for "mandatory suicide" by slayer. "master of puppets" isn't a ripoff since it has similarities in both e1m1 and e2m2, hence it's just a coincidence.

oh and "hanger 18" by megadeth (wow that has got to be the worst megadeth song ever) contributes to the main riff of map01 but...that's about it.

The first doom song you played was also in Kill Bill vol.2. I believe it was from the 60s...before metalica. "The Chase"

"So what you're saying is 12 seconds of NEDM negates nearly 6 minutes of Doom music? Hmm...could someone please explain the logic as to why people feel the need to downvote SIMPLY because of a quick NEDM reference?" Because people only watch the first 6 seconds, duh.

A band member from Nine Inch Nails did the soundtrack, and some sound effects. Most likely influenced him?

To those saying I stole this: read the description. I clearly stated that I got this idea from several Doom sites. It wasn't just one, and I can't fit them all in one spot.

As Rob Zombie already said, ALL metal riffs are a ripoff from some Black Sabbath song. Be it a faster, slower, slightly altered version. It's all been done by Sabbath. Get over it, people. Metal is great, just enjoy.

Yeah......so, I bet, I BET that id didn't plan that at all. There aren't ANY other id games that have metal themes on purpose, and theres no way in hell the ones in DOOM here planned do be clones of the producers favorite bands. I'm just saying. You still get 5'ed for letting me listen.

Once again, I would just like to say that I'm not saying anyone is ripping off anyone. The point of this site was just to show the similarities. Yea, a lot of metal is similar, but these are VERY similar. That's all I'm saying.

You're forgetting, of course, that ALL metal music sounds the same. It's a genre that doesn't lend itself to a lot of creativity. Still, I liked the suprise ending.

Also, all you dinks that say all metal sounds the same make me want to open my skull with a spoon. It's like saying "All Rap sounds the same" or "all classical aounds the same".
