Poland was not the first country he occupied, but it was the first nation he fully invaded. The British, appeasing to Hitler as to postpone war so they could prepare for it (they knew war was coming by 1937), let Hitler occupy Czechoslovakia; partly because the majority of its population were German and it seemed reasonable to most that it became part of Germany. There are historical errors in the YTMND, but hey, it is just a YTMND in the end!
Actually, the Munich deal only gave the Nazis the German-speaking sudeten border regions. Seeing as how these had all the arms factories (Skoda is serious sh*t) and all the border defenses, the Nazis were easily able to invade and occupy the rest 6 months later. But, yeah, the bellyaching is a little stupid. BTW, is that Guderian next to him?
HUGE doifference. The vast majority of the Austrian public actually wanted to join with the Nazis; the Czechs were simply unable to resist because they had been abandoned by both the Soviets and the western democracies, had lost all their military industry and border defenses after Munich, and had no real strategic depth. Plus there's also the Condor Legion is Spain...
