Damn him and his money. I was all ready to take his challenge when I read the last part: "Prove that evolution is the ONLY explanation." Well, if you make up an omnipotent being, you can NEVER prove that wrong. Ever. Any proof you have could have just been created by him. I could make up something right now and say it created the universe and everything, and you could never prove me wrong. If it created everything, then it created you and your thoughts, thus no matter what it can't be proven wrong.
"evolution" as a term applies to biological diversification, from complex chemicals, to viruses (some of which are too simple to be called life), to bacteria, to humans. the universe is a mathematical phenomenon, which, as a whole, changes, but this change is usually not referred to as "evolution", although you are welcome to do so.
"definition of existence": something exists within a given physical set, if it somehow physically interacts with other elements in that set. This property is also referred to as "observability".
Example: a Black Hole exists because we can observe its gravitational pull, ie it interacts with particles outside itself.
claim: the universe was created by something not bound by laws of physics, or something "outside space and time".____ For something to "create" the universe, it must have interacted with it, at least at some instant, somewhere. From this it follows that that something exists in, and is part of, the universe. As such it follows both the known and unknown laws of physics. Thus, we have proof by contradiction.
A related observation: since the Universe is by definition "everything", ie the sum of all events and object at all times, the physical complement of the Universe is the empty set. Thus, something that is said to be "outside of space and time" by definition is the empty set, and thus does not exist, and has never existed, anywhere.
oh and using the same definition of existence: does the universe interact with anything outside the universe? is it "observable" from the outside? ____ well since the "outside of the Universe" is the Empty Set, as previously stated, the Universe is not observable from the outside. Thus, the Universe itself does not physically exist.
Fossil records, genetic simularity between closely related animals, pepper moths, logic. Where's my $250,000? Oh, I have to prove 100%. Ok, but first, you prove that Gravity exists, or that the sky is blue, or that I'm not a giant purple, psychic hippo. Remember, have to PROVE it, a sh*t load of evidence is not enough.
Good thing there's tones of proof dealing with evolution including vestigal organs, fossil records, rock layers, and even in our living we can see evolution with two minutely differnet species of shrimp seperated by Panama. The same species of shrimp were seperated. There only difference is their inability to mate. A fairly recent species branch.
But oh no...Certainly a buncha' moral fairy tales from a time of scientific and theologic ignorance is far more convincing.
Am I the only person deeply amused by the PALTRY $250,000 "reward"? To prove, beyond any reasonable doubt, as in, wtfown the universe, you would need millions, billions of dollars, to prove the LOLGOD WILL JUDGE YOU SUMDAY ^_______________^ lemmings. The part toward the end sickened me, lemme see if this comments cuts off short...
That just destroys this amateur little "contest" right there. With that statement he destroys any legitimacy he might have had, because at that point he will reject anything you offer him, twist it to his means, and go back to the same bullsh*t people have been going back to the for the last 2000 years. Nationalism, Religion, its all a load of sh*t.
He calls evolution a religion the whole time, and this is why it shouldn't be taught in public schools. Let's just disprove why it isn't a religion, shall we? First of all, it's not based directly on an established religion. Evolutionism is not a set or moral beliefs, nor is it designed to give explinations of the after life. Creationism, however, is derived heavily from the christian belief, and the theory itself comes from the religion. Can we see this difference?
Theories do not equal religion. Theories do not require a religious belief, and are asked to be disproven. It is accepted, but evolving. Anyways, if it were a religion, it would encompass all the scientific theories, such as gravity, and I think Scientolgy is taken.
Also, both theories are wrong. Lord Xenu created life. Hail Xenu.
Unlike religion, science never sets anything in stone. We will never have some supreme authority to bash these ideas into your ignorant heads. We have mountains upon mountains of physical evidence supporting evolution. You are an festering sore on the progression of the human race. Go die in a fire so the rest of us can move on without you.
hey silly. you seem to believe that the universe is so complex that things couldn't have just fallen together to appear in their current order. how about this sock to your brainium! use that tiny brain of yours and think: suppose things are the way they are now because of what happened BEFORE now. for example. my eye could've started out as a simple patch of skin that could sense light. if you want to continue this incredibly simplistic worldview, please PM me.
The reward will probably never be collected because there will most likely always be an infinitesimal chance that evolution didn't happen. It's hard to prove something that happened that long ago beyond any doubt, just as it's extremely difficult to prove the presence of a higher power. One could theoretically wait thousands upon thousands of years until human physiology has noticeably changes from the way it was according to the first known description of it, but by then this Hovind guy will be long dead.
I'm not going to bash your beliefs or anything, but you can no more absolutely prove God exists than I can absolutely prove evolution. Evolutionists maintain that it's only a THEORY, while creationists deal in absolutes: GOD CREATED EVERYTHING ON EARTH. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE THIS, YOU MUST ABSOLUTELY BELIEVE THAT EVOLUTION EXISTS.
Honestly, though, I'd like to say that the overwhelming amount of evidence causes the theory of evolution to hold much more place in my mind than something creating every...

Peterguy, that sentence proves that the man making this offer is bereft of reason and clearly so biased that no amount of proof would squeeze a penny from him. (He puts up hurdles and insane requirements for anyone trying to collect.) Perhaps you would realize this if you were capable of observing phenomena and using logic in a rational, dispassionate manner to draw conclusions.
Stupid. "Prove evolution." Like prove what, that the process happens? Or that it's the process that resulted in the diversity of life on Earth? The former is easy to prove: show two different breeds of dogs. The latter? Impossible without a time machine.
But then prove God exists. You can't, much as many specious YTMNDs would have you believe otherwise.

This was from Kent Hovind... the man is in jail. Not for lying about even having the money for the challenge, but because he didn't pay his taxes. He owes America a lot of money... I mean, A LOT.
Another thing to give suspicion for... he claimed that everything he owns belongs to the church... and when they presented guns which were in his name, he claimed that those also belonged to the church...
