Not Quite Doom Music...or is it?

Not Quite Doom Music...or is it?
Is it possible that the beloved Doom music is just a rip off of a song made 30 years before it? My first YTMND, so be nice >_>

Most songs in Doom are based off of other songs. "Dem bones" and "master of puppets" for example.

IT'S A RIP OFF
July 20th, 2006
(0)
Every song in Doom is ripped off. This is news to you? I thought this was common knowledge.
July 20th, 2006
(0)
Lots of songs have similar openings, its the entire song that makes or break something. For example theres a part in Paperboy for the snes that sounds exactly like "Hot in here" by Nelly.

Actually, the composer for doom has said many times that his music was inspired by a lot of old stuff. A lot of the score is based off 80s metal, though.

"Actually, the composer for doom has said many times that his music was inspired by a lot of old stuff. A lot of the score is based off 80s metal, though." Uh, he was also a lawyer and knew how much he could rip off without getting in trouble. Remember, ripping off =/= influence am i rite?

July 20th, 2006
(0)
i don't think it's based off "master of puppets", i'm pretty sure it's based off a section of "no remorse". could be both though, metallica has a very distinct sound.

ok ok, let me clear this up, i always thought e1m1 (hangar) music sounded very similar to e3m3 (pandemonium), but e1m1 is definitely based off metallica (either no remorse or master of puppets) and e3m3 is based off of the slayer song (behind the crooked cross). maybe slayer ripped off metallica BEFORE doom ripped them both off, who knows, maybe they all ripped off the la route de salina song, or maybe it's simply "inspiration".

For anyone that hasn't twigged on just yet, I'm well aware that it doesn't sound QUITE like doom music, nor is it meant to. It's not meant to be an "omfg unfunny truth" thing either or I would have called it that (or added unfunny as a keyword). It sounds a bit like the opening doom music, but not QUITE. Get it, yet? Not QUITE Doom Music?

(0)
"IT'S NOT EVEN CLOSE, I just listened to The Chase and the only thing thats a little close is the start. Doom goes off into a WHOLE different toon, idiot." It goes off into a whole different cartoon? Are you sure you dont mean tune? I'd watch who you are calling an idiot. Anyway,i think this is pretty cool. I like finding songs that have similar sounding parts.
(0)
Most of Doom's music is inspired by other things. So, yeah.

Nice, but that song is actually based of Metallica's No Remorse.
August 3rd, 2006
(0)
I just listened to "No Remorse" and "behind the Crooked Cross". They only sound a little like the Doom Music, probably just about as much as "Master of Puppets", except that M.O.P. ascends tonally while the others descend. So far I think the 70's one is the closest! Still could be a coincidence.
August 3rd, 2006
(0)
I noticed someone had pointed out the scales were different, but he actually misidentified them. The Doom one is a whole tone scale and the other one is some form of major scale with passing tones (possibly major blues, so I'll give him that much).
August 21st, 2006
(0)
dude, just listen to master of puppets. if you got to doom before you got to metallica, you will recognize it immediately as 'that doom song'.
