VII is the best? Story was full of wholes and the dialog was awful. Enjoyed it all the same, but 3/6 will always be my favorite.

5'd because you're right. FFIV was good. FFVII was great, but the materia system just doesn't seem all that great. FFVI (or FFIII US) was the best FF they've ever made. FFVIII killed it for me -- the experience, pay, and spell-learning systems, along with Triple Triad having to do SO much with a bunch of the sidequests, killed my interest in anything beyond that in the series.
