Meh, when so much of it is CG, Lucas doesn't really make his own movies anymore. Just writes the script, films a few live action scenes, lets the production team go to work and gives final approval.

The whole thing that Luke got burnt by the lava was already thought up before the Sonic OVA. They may have included some small things from the OVA in the Star Wars movie as a slight wink back at 'em, but... still, it goes along with the Death Star Parody
