I would've easily 5d YTMNSTFU, but I've seen an ANIMATION of this on this site. When I find it, I'll post.

SharkShooter's epictriangle.ytmnd.com is VERY similar to me, but +1 for making me see the point of that original.
June 30th, 2006
(0)
The angles have different sizes, therefore the hypotenuse has a different angle
June 30th, 2006
(0)
the triangle puzzle is pretty well known, although I haven't met many that know the answer. the goal of my site was to present the answer in fad-site form

Love the Music, love the picture. 5 for keeping it simple.

http://ptkfgsmath.ytmnd.com http://yesyesmath.ytmnd.com both ptkfgs and yesyes used almost the same pic, and so would ytmnstfu do

congratulations! welcome to 5 years ago
(0)
but 64 still equals 65, right?
(0)
if you look closely, you can see that the y-value of the upper slope compensates for the loss of that 1 unit.

(0)
finally someone shut those dumbasses up
July 2nd, 2006

On the bottom of the screen "From where comes this 'hole'?" is a fragment that you should consider revising.

I got a D in Geometry, and a B in Algebra, but i got an A in my graphics and web design class 2 years in a row.
(0)
You saved geometry! Thank you for explaining this to me, now I can stop ripping my hair out. I'm sure a lot of people already have/will say "Um I already knew that I'm l33t lol" but they had no idea. Thanks. Nedm.
July 5th, 2006

I think I read somewhere that the leftover area from the non-straight hypotenuse is less than that square, but I forget where. Anyway, I must say, this thing is older than the internet.

can some1 fill me in on wtf YTMNSTFU is?
July 5th, 2006

I feel like such a moron. I counted the slopes of the lines for both triangles in both pictures to make sure it was being truthful and glossed right over the fact that 2/5 != 3/8
July 5th, 2006
(0)
Thank you!
July 5th, 2006
(0)
-5 for math. 5 for Final Fantasy Legend.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
i don't understand math, and i dont understand the joke :(
July 5th, 2006
(0)
It's not a joke. All they're saying is that the lines that make up what appears to be the longest side of the triange are slanted at different angles.. so, it's not actually a triangle. And it's off enough so that that space can exist.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
Err, what I mean is that what appears to be one long line that makes the longest side of the triangle is actually two different lines slanted at different angles.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
Good stuff! >_> I'm the only picture-math person here, I guess

Surely this is not "curry's paradox" if set theory and logistics which deals with self referencing statements.

July 5th, 2006

This is one math-related site I honestly haven't seen the original of. Love it anyways because math is logical Q-E-D bitchslapping.

(0)

Already done: http://damntriangle.ytmnd.com/ Nice music though.
July 5th, 2006

Heh, i rember seeing this in 8th grade. I was so sad when i figured it out though )=
July 5th, 2006
(0)
wow this is old as sin. congrats on top 15 I guess :P
July 5th, 2006
(0)
^by that I mean 5 days after you made this site it suddenly hit top 15. HOW BIZARRE!!!!
July 5th, 2006
(0)
there was allready a site about this. use the search feature.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
OH GEE YA THINK?
July 5th, 2006
(0)
A+ on your homework congratulations YOU ARE GOING TO HARVARD
July 5th, 2006
(0)
I know this triangle puzzle is old. I searched before making this ytmnd. none of the ytmnds I saw that featured it provided a solution.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
AC is a straight line, but the point B doesn't fall on it.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
Easy to figure out >_>
(0)
The line is straight. The picture is drawn wrong and your counting is off. While it looks like B is on at on that axis, it really intersects at (8,3.078) if you count A as the origin (0,0). The real answer is more complicated
(0)
^nvm i meant that's what it should be drawn like haha
July 5th, 2006
(0)
The music makes it genious, even being ooooooooooooooooooooooooooold.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
older than 3 internets

July 5th, 2006
(0)
um, fived for the RPG I was obsessed with growing up. Duh. Plus, learing while drinking beer.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
The red triangle slope is different between the two pictures. So not hott.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
Segment AB has a slope of "comedy site", while segment BC has a slope of "math isn't funny." So the hypotenuse is two stars.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
5'd for FFL2 Music. I too thought I was the only one who played that game.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
f*ckING DUH.. OLD Problem geez
(0)
I THOUGHT THE GODDAMNED SHAPES WHERE THE SAME ON THE TOP AND BOTTOM! but if they have different slopes they cant be, thus rearanging the shapes would not have that effect unless those 2 shapes(the triangles were different)
July 5th, 2006
(0)
music is annoying as all f*cking hell.
(0)
OMG yay! Perfect sound clip for this site.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
gg.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
you confuse me. i don't like you.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
The real answer is that the triangle forms a VERY small paralelogram with an area of 1. When you rearange the triangle, you inadvertantly change the shape of the paralelogram into a square and reposition it so that you can see it.
July 5th, 2006
(0)
If I could give this YTMND a 10 I would. 5 for math and 5 for FFL2.
(0)
5'd for nostalgic gameboy music. and for pwning my brain.
