How to Stop eBaums
Edit:It has come to my attention that the watermark idea is bull-puckey, but the Flash idea is solid gold! So go with that!

Yeah, he's stolen my images before, even with overlay watermarks. xD My fifteen minutes of fame.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
...crap! I thought that would stop him...
June 25th, 2006
(1)
I hate to break it to you, but he even removes the original watermarks. What a piece of sh*t

Thanks for trying. :(

watermarking is anti-YMTND
June 25th, 2006
(0)
f*ck. At least the flash thing should work. :D
June 25th, 2006

I'll admit I'm not too familiar with how ebaums works. Do the mods there steal stuff themselves or are they simply accepting stuff that's submitted by readers? 'Cause if it's the latter, it would be tough making sure things aren't stolen.

Very informative good show, you WIN the internets
June 25th, 2006

The new SomethingAwful watermark seems to be a pretty good deterent since it changes opacity and takes up a large area (though not too much). Also, you can deter them by shooting them in the f*cking face with a motherf*cking boomstick.
June 25th, 2006
(-1)
that image was stolen from newgrounds! it says so right in the image.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
if you are going to use a watermark in a flash, make sure that its not an actual text object, as those can easily be found with, well anything.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
yeah it's nearly impossible to protect your work with such simple methods that you're proposing, but it's worth the effort. the near opaque watermark idea you have that goes over the entire image would work okay, though it would make the image a bit less appealing..

This site serves a purpose...

That is brilliant! We must keep this 5'd!

Couldn't you hide a watermark somewhere in the picture where Bauman is unlikely to notice it? Then he couldn't erase it, but you would still be able to prove it's yours.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
This is a good idea :P
June 25th, 2006
(0)
good stuff :P that flash one espically
June 25th, 2006
(0)
If your flash uses voice, make sure you have one of the characters SAY "And this movie shouldn't be hosted on that f*ggot Eric Bauman's site"
June 25th, 2006
(0)
5'd, but imo slowing down the text transition would = more high quality

lol, stolen from NG
June 25th, 2006

I'm wondering if there's a way to add text to a GIF in the filestream without ruining it. The only problem with this is that no one can tell when their stuff is good enough to be stolen.

Do you people f*cking realize that a 5 vote means this site is PERFECT? It's far from it, and it's well known information, if you didn't know this, then you probably 5d it too.

rofl @ "that image was stolen from newgrounds! it says so right in the image." eBaum's does remove watermarks. And I hope they're crying every time they do it. But instead they're probably fanning themselves with stolen money. Worth noting that Flash .swf's can be decompiled sometimes and put back into .fla. The simplest advice would just be "host it somewhere public, and never accept any money from Bauman for any reason."
June 25th, 2006
(0)
or attach something to it so you know if someone stole it like ABS did with a recent submition
June 25th, 2006
(0)
3 because you can just back off the above watermark (we've seen it done) and also because the guy above me misspelled "submission"
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Nah he clips off watermarks or just puts his own over it.

or put a very low opac watermark in the middle and a higher smaller opac w/m in a bottom corner
June 25th, 2006

good work
June 25th, 2006

I already made a Mochibot account, even though I have no projects at the moment :D
June 25th, 2006

well, it's good advice. Too bad *ssholes like eBaum could still get away with it in court.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
or put poison on it
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Guys, new idea, you should scatter the watermark around EVERYWHERE and just like the watermark you should put the I GIVE CREDIT TO in the MIDDLE of the picture at like nanoscopic zoom times 10000!!
June 25th, 2006
(0)
good guide
June 25th, 2006
(0)
SA does that now, but the watermarks are much larger than the ebaums logo
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Great idea we should all try doing this and sue ebaums ass!!!!
June 25th, 2006
(0)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steganography Technology gives more solutions than simple watermarks, you know. You can have completely invisible watermarks that show up when certain techniques are preformed on the image.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Simple. You should put a watermark on your picture in such a way that it is extra obvious that they stole your stuff and placed their own mark on it. For example, put in several watermarks or put in one bigger than ebaumsworld's normal one, or both. When ebaumsworld steals, they will have to place their own mark on top of the original mark. It will look so much more suspicious in court :)
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Excellent.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
but you forgot to watermark your site
June 25th, 2006
(0)
EwoudCP: If they can see it, they can photoshop it out. If they can't tell it's there but it can be easily reproduced before a court, then there's nothing he can do to protect himself. Of course, the BEST protection is to register your copyright, as that way you can get statutory damages.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Good advice.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
problem is, are you going to put up the money to take them to court? second, half the stuff on here is from google search or captured from a dvd or whatever meaning its stolen and placing their own watermark on other people's stuff is why they hate ebaum.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
yea like the other guys said get a copyright, but oh yea thats right you can't get a copyright on something like the lindsay lohan gif because he stole stills from other places. thats why nobody is going to court.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
you sir, win the internet.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
dannyaq: You've never even looked at either US or international copyright laws, have you? Look-up "Fair use", for starters. The Lohan image falls under "Satire", and is thus fair use. Further, as an original work it is copyright of the person who created it. Most of YTMND is actually protected by provisions of copyright law. http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/html/uscode17/usc_sup_01_17.html
June 25th, 2006

Jesus f*cking Christ I hate this anti-ebaum sh*t. Seriously.
June 25th, 2006

Fived for a passive solution to the problem of theft. DoS attacks tip the law in eBaum's favor, and the hits just give them more cash with which to anally rape animators. This site is a step in the right direction (let eBaum's World kill itself!).
June 25th, 2006
(0)
you are a genius
June 25th, 2006

just put the watermark on a core part of the image.

I thought of what i thought was a good idea, planting an encrypted watermark in the hex (so the image wouldnt be altered but if opened the message could be found and decrypted) but it turns out unless thats in a bit that screws up the picture completely then it just gets overwritten if the file is changed at all :(
June 25th, 2006

yeah

June 25th, 2006

Another tip: Put watermark in the middle of the image somehow.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
ITs good but FOCKING STOP RUINING THE MUSIC!
(0)
whaaa- i can make ytmnd's and flash animations with copywritten images using more than likely pirated software but i'll be damned if ebaum STEALS my work.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
What they do, it they decompile the flash and edit out the parts that discredit themselves. The watermark is just cropped off.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Maybe so gain
June 25th, 2006
(0)
thanks for the info
June 25th, 2006

Well, you could do that... Or we could just send every ytmnder over to crash their site.
June 25th, 2006

June 25th, 2006

Actually it's hard to find, hence the "near microscopic", that way there's a high chance he won't remove it.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
-1 for bashing an easy target, -1 for lame advice, -1 for low production value
June 25th, 2006
(0)
I'm 5'ing this cuz the heart's in the right place. I can remove the watermark from any gif. I don't have the know-how to decompile flash though, but apparently it can be done. Personally I'd get a free website and put links in the flash menu in the beginning, and have the list of "sites this can be viewed on" on that website.
June 25th, 2006

A noble effort; 4 for trying.

f*ck him for removing OTHER PEOPLE'S WATERMARKS, JUST TO PLACE HIS OWN.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
yea, I assume if you really know what youre doing, like ebaum does, you can remove water marks, which I'm sure he has. but the flash thing is a good idea, just hide that somewhere in your flash.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
THANK YOU
(0)
"...MewtwoStruckBack, that sentence has just opened a Pandora's Box for you from which there is no waking." I've been praising eBaum in my comments here for some time, why would this one particular comment be any different? "it won't work. they'll still steal it and your case over a 2 simple minute flash animation will never go to court." QUOTED FOR THE f*ckING TRUTH.
(0)
LOL PWN3D
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Mewtwo, I'm just saying that kind of talk isn't exactly supported around YTMND and may earn you a negative reputation. Also if someone did use this technique and Eric did steal it, this kind of evidence would definitely tip the scales in favor of the animator.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
honestly, if ebaum stole something from me id love it. its not like im getting money from ytmnd. and its not people know my real name. so theres nothing being defaced. getting put on ebaum would just spread my work around the internet which would be much to my liking.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
APPLAUSE.
June 25th, 2006
(0)
Good ideas.
(0)
I already have a negative reputation here and don't care. I'm like inkdrinker with less 1's but more eBaum love. And yes, I know this is one of many techniques that can be used to catch thieves. But as long as there's a way around it, he'll keep jacking stuff. He OBVIOUSLY checks this site, so if someone puts up a new way to stop him, he'll immediately get to work on a counter.
June 26th, 2006
(0)
Since I plan on doing flash work that microscopic text trick should help. The thought of seizing Eric's office building is quite appealing.

Holy f*ck. I didn't even crack a smile. I love how if there's a site made that makes ebaumsworld look bad, everybody gives it high ratings. Get your own opinions and sense of humor, will you people?
July 14th, 2006
(0)
why is everyone getting mad about this ebaums world site...I go there all the time and watch funny videos...I mean its not like there are many sites as well put together as his you have to admit, even if not every little thing on there is original, some fat nerd is going to cry no matter what you do so wah wah cry it up f*gs

the best is to put secret buttons in a flash.... so that when he steals it you take him to court and go BAM click the button and it takes you to a screen in which says if this is on ebaums... stolen nig
August 20th, 2006
(0)
Ive thought of doing this.
August 27th, 2006
(0)
How about just watermarking the entire image, lol. We'll see a big transparent YTMND logo in the way while we watch stuff. Now THAT would prevent Ebaums from stealing crap.
August 31st, 2006
(0)
nice, but you realize that ebaums will just slpa their watermark right over yours?
September 12th, 2006
(0)
or better yet, put that watermark on something really good you made, if u can, send it to ebaums just after sending it to wherever.
September 23rd, 2006

why didnt u put a watermark on this? ebaums world is gonna steal this and put it into a flash and tell how not to hav ytmnd steal ebaums stuff. u must put a watermark on this
