"Nord and Bert Couldn't Make Head or Tail of It" by Infocom might be what people are referring to. It was a a text adventure game I had for the Commodore64. There was a fork in the road you picked up, a door that was a jar, and the first puzzle was changing the phrase "shake a tower" to "take a shower". A lot of word-play like that...
