Scientology just doesnt fly
Why used a winged space craft in outer space where there is no lift?

The same reason why the space shuttle has wings... for landing+taking off. But i still

ya you can have a 55 gallon drun fly through space just as well if you put rockets on it. But hey, LOL DC-8's what a bunch of f*cking retards

The Church of Scientology has no time for your troubled beliefs, it is clearly just your thetans corrupting you.

the wings make it look cool, and thats all scientology is really about... no?

they had to trick them to go on the planes, making them believe it was no space plane. Dumb scientologists

they have rocket engines if u actually researched a bit

What are YOUR crimes? What do you have against Hubbard?

If you actually bother thinking about it, the wings are probably for inside the atmosphere, rocket engines for in space. But the idea that DC-8's make for good space travel is ludicrous.

"they have rocket engines if u actually researched a bit" I know this, but they still dont need wings. Wings are used to create lift and keep a airplane in the air. In outer space their is no atmosphere to create a pressure change from above and below the wing. Making them completely useless, as well as scientology!

JBobek--space shuttles dont need wings to take off you silly prick

The wings could have served a function much like the space shuttle... if it weren't complete bullsh*t.

Since the planes flew over volcanoes, and were loaded on a planet, I'd say at some point they WERE in an atmosphere. Why do you think OUR shuttles have wings?

It is true that our space shuttle has wing's, but those are for gliding back to earth. They aren’t used for takeoff because there are useless for that matter. In fact the wings are built to achieve only minimal lift or else it would be uncontrollable on landing. The airframe and shape of a DC-8 is completely impracticable for take off. It is true you could use it to land on a planet, but you would need a runway. (Continued below)

Maybe using its rockets it could achieve a vertical drop down landing, but then again that would make the wings useless. Also by gliding into a atmosphere like the Space shuttle you generate grate heat. Those DC-8s appear to have no heat shielding, now if you use a slow decent re-entry like what you see in sci-fi movies then sure that would work. Once again though that leaves you with more evidence that the wings are useless, no matter how you look at it the wings are indefensible.

you raise a good point but you should be asking how it would maneuvre, not how it would provide lift.
