The net nutrality thing is intresting. The only talk of ending comes from the people who want to protect it. Those who object to the protection nithere want nore are able to end net nutrality.
The DMCA has already shut down a large segment of Star Trek fan sites while Paramount was being asholes. Including Spock.com and that had ZERO trek content just the name (and Spock is a human name)
I care. However, I know that if sh*t does go down, YTMND will do a Pirate Bay: split across the world, on many servers. The Internet is mobile and infinite. It cannot be regulated. It cannot be controlled. Digital Anarchy, my friend. But regardless, thanks for the warning. I already know the EFF and support them.
I hate to tell you this but the censorship battle has been waging since the early 60s, perhaps longer and in truth it's (pro censorship) losing more ground with every decade. (It's never truly won a victory in fact.)Shaikoten has made a very valid point though, if you don't like what's happening you have to do something about it, get involved, don't just bitch. Well made site.
Fight the DMCA because it's more than a fight just for YTMND. The DMCA destroys the right to develop software openly and freely, a few projects that have been threatened or killed by the DMCA: mplayerm, DVD-XCopy, Xine, Linux to name a few. It also drives up the price of consumer electronics because produts are more expensive to design and develop. The DMCA is yet another law made to make the rich richer and the poor poorer.
The United States claims to be the greatest "democracy" in the world. While at the same time, peoples rights and freedoms are being pushed aside so that corporations can make super-profits and fully control whatever they patent. The internet is a medium through which we may practice our fundemental freedom of speech, lets keep it that way.
#1. A large portion of the site's population is lazy/underage/uninformed. So asking them to actually put a significant effort into changing something in REAL LIFE isn't going to happen.
#2. Let the internet lobbyists do their work without having "leet" kids email them with garbage about how we need to protect ourselves from "noobzorz" in congress.
#3. It's not At ease, men. It's At ease, soldiers.
exactly what about the DMCA makes yourthemannowdog.ytmnd.com not fair use? The right to parody is a part of the constitution. I will admit that there are quite a few ytmnds that simply rip off things intended to be jokes in the first place. These are indeed not fair use. There are much more, however, that are fair use. Anyways, what specifically is going to make parody of this kind illegal?
