Lol, the NES rectangle controller was actually surprisingly comfortable, and couldn't be blamed for bad layout (like some modern ones) and they were damn near invincible. I even opened one and saw. inside the relatively thick plastic there as a very thick circuit board with wires and a chip firmly in place. in other words it won't be broken when you throw it at the wall when you lose to the big yellow boss on megaman for the 50th time

NES got 90% of the market because of the monopoly, if a company produced games for the NES they would only make games for the NES, Master System came one year after and couldn't get more than 5% of the American market, on the other hand it was quite popular on Europe, Brazil and apparently Australia. You described that you meant classic gaming and not only NES so here is a 5, 32/64 bit era was the last good one.

the NES was great and all (megaman 1-6, mario, zelda, and OWN), but there have been better consoles, namely NINTENDO SIXTY FOOOOUUUUURRR!!!!!, the psone, genesis, SNES, dreamcast, and sexy sega saturn. Sorry. Just because a console is older doesn't make it the best. Games took maybe a month to make, tops. The NES single-handedly saved gaming and the sega master system single-handedly gives it a hand job. ;)
