PhysX card required!?! =O
CellFactor doesn't actually require an Ageia PhysX PPU...

Yeah, my first YTMND, so not great... >_> I just wanted to make my point and flaunt it around though.

In terms of the PhysX chip, the upper class PC enthusiasts blowing money on it tell the tale more than the budget gamers who resist against buying it, so who knows?

I'm not buying one. If you dedicate one of the cores of a future dual core (or quad core) CPU then you have a free and standardized source for processing all those physics. I have just a small portion of an ancient Thoroughbred B core 2700+ running this CellFactor demo smoothly. (we'll call this an elitist discussion since only like three people know where to find it)

Physx chip is a waste of a PCI-E slot. It does take a load off your CPU, but not enough to justify the hefty price tag.

They had a tech demo fairly recently that mostly made me feel embarrassed for the company... The cloth stuff at least was cool, but it still wasn't anything a CPU can't do. A 700 Mhz CPU can run HL2 for crying out loud! And that's not even a dedicated core.

full version can't, though.

can't be ran without physx, that is.

Over the past year, I'd like to think that I learned quite a bit about the situation. The situation still remains at a constant regardless of minor inaccuracies along the way: A PPU may be faster, but it is unnecessary for the mainstream (and therefore recommended not to be adopted by anything but extreme niches); furthermore, CellFactor's tech demo & parts of the full game run without one at decent speeds.
