Political correctness is brilliant! My family no longer has 'christmas' - the more atheist thing to do is to celebrate Winterval, the Winter Interval :D

I picked Nietzsche (who said "God is Dead") + NIN because it is too good a combination to pass off, not because I like (or understand) Nietzsche's writings. "Heresy" wasn't even the best song on The Downward Spiral.

Not an atheist conspiracy, it's a recognition by the government that the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster should be our offical winter holiday(considering it's actually called 'Holiday').

And, right under it, in the latest headlines, it says "Christmas 2005". Nice try tho. Four since it made me laugh for a second anyway.

ARGH. I hate when people say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas". Making things neutral doesn't make people of other religions all happy, it just makes people of all religions pissed. Atheists who do things for the holidays shouldn't care, and atheists who don't do anything for the holidays have no right to care. Tolerance will help us overcome racism, not neutrality. If someone said, "Happy Chanukah" to me, I wouldn't care, so why does everyone freak out when someone says "Merry Christmas"?

Although i'm Christian, I see no reason why atheist complain about Merry Christmas? I mean the name has been with us so long. It doesn't imply at all that you are Christian. Just my 2 cents

So many contradictions in the people of the US of A. People have freedom of speech, yet they want this political correctness or censorship. You cant have one without violating the other. This censorship also breaks the right of religious freedom. Saying merry christmas isnt pushing ones beliefs on an other, its more of a compliment from one person to another. Those who get pissed off about it need to quit being a duche, and get the sand out of their vagina. Say what ever feels natural.

"thats gay do u know what separation of church and state is? they CANT say merry christmas u dumbass" The RNC is not a government institution, it's a political organization. They could say whatever they wanted to on their website (which is, coincidentally, .com instead of .gov, DOY!) This whole War on Christmas bullsh*t is just something Bill O'Reilly and John Gibson cooked up; conservatives in government have got bigger fish to fry... like.... flag burners..... and gays........

lol, nietzsche

i'm an atheist, i celebrate christmas and i say 'merry christmas' - it has become secularized enough people shouldnt have to worry about religious connations. regardless, there are other holidays around this time - not just chanukah but F*CKING NEW YEARS. are people so stupid they cant see the sometimes sensible to incorporate all of them together, especially from corporations, so they dont have to make 8 different campaigns or say 8 different things? its common sense. be smart, dont be a retard.
December 11th, 2006
(0)
so... anyone, ANYONE, who connects 'happy holidays' as trying to destroy christianity needs to have their head examined. as if Santa becoming the central christmas figure isnt a bigger threat to the religion? get your priorities straight.

I'm an atheist and I'm still part of a Catholic family and actively participate in Christmas. Athesists don't neccissarily hate Christmas, or any religious holiday for that matter; all we care about is that we don't believe in any god.
December 11th, 2006
(0)
I am a Christian and I agree with what dantes-torment just said. Atheists don't all hate Christmas, they just don't really care for the most part. Happy Holidays is just a way to wish everyone a good time during the holiday season at the same time, regardless of religion. I still say "Merry Christmas" to people I see, so what's the problem? To each his own.

Also, what the guys above are talking about is anti-theism vs. atheism. Unfortunately, the most loudmouth atheists tend to be anti-theists. The irony is that anti-theism is a religion. :)

December 11th, 2006

I saw a pretty cool banner with the holiday message in 30 languages, but I noticed the Spanish phrase was "Feliz Fiestas." Go Babelfish that. "Happy Celebrations"? Baloney. I've never heard "Feliz Fiestas" from any espanol speaker I know (and there's been a lot), it's always been "Feliz Navidad" ("Happy Christmas"). Maybe there's not an atheist conspiracy but stuff like that is really fishy.

Why do people all assume that "Happy Holidays" is inherently anti-Christian? Last time I checked, Christmas is follwed up by New Year's in a week. Makes sense to lump them together, especially for businesses and other institutions.
December 14th, 2006
(0)
Anyway, if Christians really want to save their holiday, then they should campaign to make it not a national holiday that everyone gets off and instead just a normal day. Then it won't be commercialized and will actually be about Christ, and they will have to actively ask for the day off to celebrate it and thus show how devoted they are to their religion. Jewish people already do it with their holidays, don't see why Christians shouldn't do the same.
December 14th, 2006
(0)
People like to get upset about "Happy Holidays" because Christians like to feel persecuted - it gives them conviction in their faith. Really, as TheShadow just said, it's about lumping together a collection of similar holidays of divergent origins and trying to acknowledge them all in the same word.
December 14th, 2006
(0)
Then the rest of us could celebrate our winter solstice in peace. It's not like Jesus was even born in December anyway.
December 14th, 2006

"nietzsche is approximately equal to hitler" This is incorrect. Nietzsche despised anti-Semites and mass movements as well as socialism, the state, and the gesticulating style of NAZI rhetoric. He was primarily an individualist; Hitler and other NAZI interpreters could not have been any further off the mark in their understanding of Nietzsche. This is primarily the fault of Nietzsche's sister, who seized control of her brother's work after his insanity and used it for her own aims.

I'm an atheist but I still think it should be called Christmas. Anyone who actually claims to be offended by it is just a douche.
December 14th, 2006
(0)
"thats gay do u know what separation of church and state is? they CANT say merry christmas u dumbass" yes they can. seperation of church and state is supposed to protect RELIGION from the STATE, and NOT the other way around. too many morons hear the words "seperation of church and state" and think that it means that anything having to do with christianity has to be put 10,000,000 miles away from government. also, since when did christmas become strictly christian? christmas is celibrated by everyone.
December 14th, 2006
(0)
the reason christians dislike "happy holidays" is because people will say that when they're talking about christmas, i mean, "happy holidays, and a happy new year" is a dead givaway. also, x-mas is a clear attempt to remove christianity from a holiday that came into being because of christians.

First I'll say that I'm Jewish, and whether some says to me "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" I don't mind either way. People need to quit caring so much about it. I don't get offended when someone says "Merry Christmas," so why do you guys get offended when someone says "Happy Holidays?" Of all the possible jokes out there of how ludicrous political correctness can be, this one is pretty weak. Mostly I gave it a 2 because YTMND is supposed to funny, not someplace to make a statement.
December 15th, 2006

Heresy blew out my speakers when I was 14. So 5.
December 15th, 2006

"Happy holidays" is to appease all the other religious 'tards and is a blanket statement to wish happiness for religious rituals. Get it right. Oh yeah, and Happy Saturnalia day.

The only statement I want to make is that people who don't find a reference to Nietzsche funny probably don't have a soul. I'm not sure where the other opinions are coming from, since this ytmnd is just an excuse to do NIN + Nietzsche + cliché.
January 17th, 2007
(0)
"hats gay do u know what separation of church and state is? they CANT say merry christmas u dumbass". you fail to comprehend the simplest concepts. this is the very nature of a ytmnd, poking fun at things. pure satire. the creator is not a religiously fanatic repuclican, nor is he an evil atheist sent by satan to rob you of your faith by convincing you your opinions are ridiculous. and now, to follow our wonderful ytmnd traditions, i part with this: fyad.
(0)
LOL! I don't see anything wrong with that!
