happy turkey day my fellow colleagues,
I just wanted to let you all try out the new player. You can turn on the beta test in your user options or alternatively just view it at any site by visiting site.ytmnd.com/flash.html, new sites most likely won't work, but anything made before the time of this post should. Post your feedback/errors/etc inside.
I will update with some more info later when I come down off this massive tryptophan high.

I had the same initial problem of GIFs not animating. I updated flash, and nothing worked still. But, I just figured out it was adblock screwing with something. If you have a white bar at the bottom of the screen with a "block" tab on it, Make sure you make an exception for that object. That seemed to fix everything for me, anyway.
I will also agree that animated gifs aren't working on new sites. This site supersugarcrisp.ytmnd.com which was made on 11/26 at 13:54 animates fine. However, redglare.ytmnd.com which was made on 11/26 at 19:31 does not animate. I downloaded the newest version of Flash and using FireFox 2.0.0.18. The Dr-L337 site I made on the 17th works and loops flawlessly (instead of losing sync after three loops). Thanks.
It looks like other people are having the same gif problem as I am. I just tried http://picardsong2k.ytmnd.com/flash.html (the picard song epic maneuver remix) and the gif isn't working for me. I have version 9,0,124,0 installed of Adobe Flash. Other than gifs tho, I like the flash player, loads way faster.
I liked the whole idea behind the featured users section when it came out a year and a half ago, but now its dropped down into obscurity. It doesn't even follow the algorithm anymore. Two users get to decide who fits and who doesn't. It was a good try, but it is turning many users against each other. Can't we all have equal status again?
I did like the feature user idea but the way it is sucks. As far as I can tell there is no algorythm anymore. It's just a couple of people picking users whose sites they like. The featured user "Then" has like 2 sites with any significant views. I have over 20. If I have no idea what I'm working toward, then why try at all?
Its not that I don't want to see the featured user section on the front page, its just that the featured user section has divided the users on this site and given an unfair advantage to users selected to be on the list. I know about customizing the front page for myself, do you think I'm ignorant or something? It was a great idea to highlight users who normally submit favorable content based on their sites ratings, but it has gotten ridiculous since the algorithm was put out of place. It needs to go.
GeneralFod: Yes I do, because this has been addressed by Max and it isn't going anywhere. So complaining about it ad nauseam isn't going to do anything. I even agree with you about it dividing people, but that started from the beginning, not when it was changed last month. Honestly, the most vocal complainers are rejects from the FPA and who cares what they think.
I never said one thing about hating the fact that I'm not featured. I just think the system is deeply flawed. Sure, there are users that deserve to have the spotlight because they make decent sites that get decent ratings. But then there's that certain list of featured users that do not have decent sites, and for some reason everyone with a pink name feels the need to 5 those sites. I'm pretty much repeating everything that everyone in this string of comments has been saying...the facts.
In theory, Featured Users is a good idea, because it (theoretically) lets people know about users with good sites. In practice, it's not so good an idea. People begin saying "Why is(n't) this guy featured?" and the Section becomes spammed with mediocre sites. A lot of users like to post sites just for the sake of posting sites, including Featured Users. The bold pink names become ostentatious in comments sections, especially if the Featured User is being overly critical of the site.
I'd have to recommend completely removing pink names and the Featured Section. And, in order to alert people of users with good sites as originally intended, put a "Featured" tab in http://ytmnd.com/users/ Put a list of Featured Users there, and a notification that says something like "List last updated ____, some users have started sucking/become awesome since then."
Then, because that will seem like an obscure place to go, and bold pink names are too showy, put a small notification on some user profiles saying something like "This user is Featured." (with "Featured" being a link to the list of all the users) This method should stop ostentatious pink names, stop featured spam on the front page, and still give an idea of who makes quality sites. As for who goes on the list, that's more complicated, but the list should be hidden well enough inside YTMND for
not too many to complain about. There are some methods for this (vote users on/off the list, perhaps) but you can save that for a later date. You can replace the Featured Users section with a Favorite Users section, but if you don't know how to yet, that's fine. Don't wait til you learn how, just stick with the simple easy stuff I mentioned earlier, then move on. Yes, this is an example of an ostentatious bold pink name being overly critical.
If featured users is to stay, maybe it can be done differently. For example, featured users should be selected solely on the views/votes/scores (or whatever it is) algorithm, and instead of taking every site into account, the list should be updated every 2 months taking into account only sites made during the previous 2 month period with a minimum of, say, 3 sites created in this space in order to be considered. That way it gets rid of inactive and undeserving users.
1) Didn't work at first, downloaded latest flash player, now works. Ace. 2) Sites that still use the ytmnsfw crap need to have the URL changed to ytmnd first before they load. This enacts the age verification spiel. 3) I think gifs tend to look a big crappier, I haven't noticed any loss in sound quality yet. 4) Everything actually syncs first time, and none of the problems I usually get with Firefox. All in all, better than the previous preloader, and once it's tuned up will be awesome. Good job guys.
Is it possible to bring back the ability to highlight zooming text? It makes meteor-esque sites seem much more creative, making it clear that the person didn't just add text in the right spot in Photoshop. Also, the text in those sites don't line up exactly right anymore for some reason. Examples: http://snikt.ytmnd.com/flash.html http://omgalightsaber.ytmnd.com/flash.html http://holycrapunicorn.ytmnd.com/flash.html --and unicode text doesn't show up anymore: http://holysnake.ytmnd.com/flash.html
Hey Max, you still reading these posts? One thing that I don't like about the new set up is that a new window popps open when hitting the comment bubble. I liked the old method where when you go to comment on a site, it changes pages in the same window. Trying to read different posts while the YTMND is still playing gets a bit annoying
wow SHOUTOUTS plus TMND at the end, wow, funny. hey guess what? im better than you. my dick is bigger and harier. you seem to be all into this online community of f*ck. i bet you'll screencap these messages and make a site out of them too. but hey, in the world of photoshop one can always claim "the person made that screencap f*ck em its not me" well hey again, F*CK YOU and you can never prove im really jamesROLFE the NERD and you ant deal with the fact that i have a HUGE f*cking fan base and that i KNOW ALL MY SH*T WITH THE GAMES and im not doing this cuz im drink so go pray, prairiedogeric10.
So, I don't really give a sh*t if the featured user section doesn't appear on the normal front page, but why has it now dissapeared from my custom layout? Really wanna take it to the extent where any functionality or humor it offers is removed? Only to be replaced with a section featuring a rotating cast of "worthwhile" Osaka ytmnds? I don't care about the normal front page, but it's pretty f*ckin' stupid to take it away as an option to use on my personalized front page.
