black history month

Hola amigos!
Just a quick post to let you know that I'm not up to anything for a while. With my faulty motherboard failing for the third time, and the loss of use of my most important finger, work has been hard to accomplish this week.
I'm off to California for a bit to visit the family and recuperate, but before I leave I have a few small updates.
I purged the user and site deletion queues, this cleaned up around 1.000 users, 5,000 sites, 50,000 comments and over 200,000 votes. I have updated the current alt account list, and it is actually fairly small now. At any rate, I am taking an active stance on deleting problematic users and alt abusers, which means I have a lot more whiny emails to read.
On a related note I've finished the new login system on the dev site, and it does a much better job of tracking users and possible alt accounts, as well as removing a bunch of bugs and weird oddities. I've also added a smarter "forgot password" function, as well as a "forgot email/change email" function. The new site will now send you an email if someone tries to strike out trying to log into your account as well.
In general I've been making a lot of progress on the re-factoring, a ton of new features and bug fixes. There are some major features I want to add but need to figure out if the servers have the power to handle them and not slow the site to a crawl. I'll report more on them as I progress.
I've been talking to a pretty clever developer who has made great progress in getting flash to load WAV files at run-time and loop seamlessly. I am hoping to make a test version of the preloader with his code integrated in. Assuming it works for the most part, it would mean that the site would play 100% of the sound files through flash, ridding the site of the plague of problems, crashes, and earaches caused by quicktime etc. No more firefox sync, no more "SEND MONEY TO NIGERIA" problems. This is a huge deal, and one of my largest priorities when I can actually get my hands on the code, which he hopes to release in the next couple weeks.
There's not much else I have to report on, I've received one design out of the expected eight, so I pretty much hate every designer I've ever met now. I'll check back in with more updates soon.
