a journey to reedham (7am mix)

I'm hard at work on the new site creator, which turns out to be a lot more work than I originally thought. I'm well aware of the plethora of issues currently plaguing the site, and I'm working on them as diligently as possible.
Current issues:
So anyway, back to the new site creator and all its magnificent features.
As you can see from the flow chart, it's a much more intensive process than it is currently (at least from a programming standpoint). New features include:
Current issues:
- YTMNSFW voting I've put a hack in place to make voting work any time you click a nsfw link from the front page and browse pages, there are still some issues when you just type a url directly into your browser and I'm working on it.
- The Search The new search is more or less useless due to the lack of sorting capabilities. The search engine software I'm using is in the beta stages of sort ability so very soon it should be able to replace the old search. The reason the old search was removed is that it can no longer be updated at any reasonable frequency due to technical constraints. I think for the time being I'm going to switch back to the old search and just have to live with it only being updated a couple times a week.
- The site is too orange. Great, I get the fucking point, it's been two weeks. If it's still an issue for you get the fuck out. I may add a color scheme option at some point but it's not nearly as much of a priority as a great deal of new features.
- Site Moderation - Killed Sites I'm in the process of designing a whole new tiered moderation system with more of a self policing element to it. As it is roughly around five sites get killed per day, and usually with good reason. In the next week or so I should be inviting the current moderators to discuss all of the new moderation system and its strong and weak points. Which leads me to my next point:
- Gimmick accounts/Vote bots/Dupe accounts
- Shirts Yes, I'm aware you want shirts, I'm in the process of setting up with a new printer/fulfillment shop, so it's still in the works.
- Content box tweaking A few of the content boxes need to be tweaked so they change more often, ironically people seem to be complaining about top viewed not changing enough when the algorithm hasn't changed from when they were begging to have it back. Up and coming needs its vote cap reinstated as well as a few other issues.
- You Yes, you, get out.
I'm acutely aware of the plague of dip shits who think they've reinvented funny by commenting and voting the exact same way on every site ever created on YTMND. Not only is this shitty from a technical aspect, I'm fucking sick of hearing people complain about it as well as having to see it myself. I've already written scripts to weed gimmick accounts out, I just need to sift through them and make sure I don't pick up any innocents. At this point, dupe accounts have become numerous as well, and I have a gigantic list of those as well. I want you to be well aware using automated voting will result in not only your account deletion and an ip ban, but any of your linked ips. This means if your friends use your computer or vice versa, or your entire college shares the same ip, everyone gets deleted and ip banned. With any luck I'll kill the entire site.
So anyway, back to the new site creator and all its magnificent features.
As you can see from the flow chart, it's a much more intensive process than it is currently (at least from a programming standpoint). New features include:
- the ability to reserve a sub-domain for 24 hours.
- the ability to close your browser or navigate away from the site creator and then come back and pick up where you left off (with a 24 hour expiration as well)
- a nifty new dupe check system that warns you if you've: used a title that's been used previously, used an image/sound or combination that's already been used.
- "Original Content Tuesday": On Tuesdays, users will only be able to upload images and sounds never used before on YTMND.
- Color Picker for the hex inept
- Preloader update: option to auto-resync, automatically will hide site text until fully loaded.
- Live preview window: the ability to change one thing on your site and reload a preview window for easy tweaking.
- New "Classic YTMND" classification: will make for some new content boxes
- The ability for users to mark their own sites NSFW
- Hooks for a feature that's been needed for ages: Alerts. Alerts will allow you to be notified when a friend creates a site, when a certain image, sound or string in a title is used, etc.
As well as a bunch of other junk.

Your Ad Here
yes, roq, that is a fantastic idea. ive thought about the same with 'ytmnd user of the day' in which a totally random user with 5 or more sites (regardless of rating) would have 5 of their highest rated displayed on the frontpage. might be a little newgroundsish, do they even do that? i dont know, but still might be funny.
Putting ads up taxes max. He doesn't want to do it. People bitching because he is forced, financially, to put ads up is taxing. The first tax is offset by the fact that the ads generate revenue. The second does not. Thus, people who bitch about ads should have ads pop up every time they visit the main page unless they pay a certain fee of, say, $50. Then they can bitch all they want. Scratch that... then they can shut the hell up because they don't have any ads and they should've to begin with.
"stop making nsfw sites and maybe some ad networks will be willing to advertise here." Max, have you considered having people review content before it is listed on the front page? If you got a bunch of well-established users to view a site after it is submitted but before it shows up, they could designate it NSFW before it ever sees the light of day. urbandictionary.com uses a similar technique for their submissions. Hopefully it would cut down on the unfit content and open the door for more ad revenue.
Here's the math: Max is $30,000 in debt, there were 90,000+ users online this week. So if each of us donated about 33 cents, max would be debt free and the ads would be removed. So, stop your whining, borrow your father's credit card if you have to, and help out. Also nws-has-monetary-value.ytmnd.com

Hmm sounds great man. It could help me a bit coming up with orginal YTMND's and sites with animated gifs. By the way could you do anything about that P.S. Telemarketer fad thats always first on the up and coming list? It's just been getting viewhacked like the plague and its not fair to other sites that should deserve to be up there.
^Creative Commons licenses allow for some material (given the correct license) to be merely cited in order for it to not violate it. This is not a for-profit website as Ebaumsworld.com is, so it falls under the creative commons licenses. The site is, however, completely unoriginal and for that those responsible should be ashamed for living and wasting our air. Stop breathing, please.
^those responsible for its creation and its rating, I mean. Reproduced not for a profit does not necessarily mean stolen... it is not stolen if its reproduction not for a profit is allowed. Check the licensing (I doubt it was licensed to begin with, which means that citing it is all one would need to do) and see if it is actually stolen and not just unoriginal.
i'm naive and have too much faith in the goodness of YTMND sometimes. I think a big problem right now is YTMND got so big that it became more difficult and infrequent for sites to play off each other and people still get it. single standalone ytmnds that dont push the site forward are more prevalent. sometimes thats good (ie AskAaks consistently original material) but other times its very bad (hey guys! check out this hilarous prank call from a morning show I recorded!)

What I get tired of is kids accusing me of being a thief when I an not. My Site......http://strangelove-ride.ytmnd.com/......And MasterSitsu's site.........http://bombaway.ytmnd.com/..... are very different. I had no clue that he even had a site like that. Would of saved me an hour ripping the image from the movie. Besides, my image is smaller, slower, and a higher quality. And the song I chose is classical.
ytmnd protips : To maximize views and votes on your submissions; a. Make good sites, b. Submit around EST Midnight Hour (half-hour/quarter till) c. Join a collective and sponsor your sites (cap is up to $30.00 nowadays), so yeah, submitting any other way will result in a flacid 4,000 views, and or 330 votes... Not bad, but for some sites, that's undeserving. I say vote cap on U & C should be 450 least.
