a journey to reedham (7am mix)

I'm hard at work on the new site creator, which turns out to be a lot more work than I originally thought. I'm well aware of the plethora of issues currently plaguing the site, and I'm working on them as diligently as possible.
Current issues:
So anyway, back to the new site creator and all its magnificent features.
As you can see from the flow chart, it's a much more intensive process than it is currently (at least from a programming standpoint). New features include:
Current issues:
- YTMNSFW voting I've put a hack in place to make voting work any time you click a nsfw link from the front page and browse pages, there are still some issues when you just type a url directly into your browser and I'm working on it.
- The Search The new search is more or less useless due to the lack of sorting capabilities. The search engine software I'm using is in the beta stages of sort ability so very soon it should be able to replace the old search. The reason the old search was removed is that it can no longer be updated at any reasonable frequency due to technical constraints. I think for the time being I'm going to switch back to the old search and just have to live with it only being updated a couple times a week.
- The site is too orange. Great, I get the fucking point, it's been two weeks. If it's still an issue for you get the fuck out. I may add a color scheme option at some point but it's not nearly as much of a priority as a great deal of new features.
- Site Moderation - Killed Sites I'm in the process of designing a whole new tiered moderation system with more of a self policing element to it. As it is roughly around five sites get killed per day, and usually with good reason. In the next week or so I should be inviting the current moderators to discuss all of the new moderation system and its strong and weak points. Which leads me to my next point:
- Gimmick accounts/Vote bots/Dupe accounts
- Shirts Yes, I'm aware you want shirts, I'm in the process of setting up with a new printer/fulfillment shop, so it's still in the works.
- Content box tweaking A few of the content boxes need to be tweaked so they change more often, ironically people seem to be complaining about top viewed not changing enough when the algorithm hasn't changed from when they were begging to have it back. Up and coming needs its vote cap reinstated as well as a few other issues.
- You Yes, you, get out.
I'm acutely aware of the plague of dip shits who think they've reinvented funny by commenting and voting the exact same way on every site ever created on YTMND. Not only is this shitty from a technical aspect, I'm fucking sick of hearing people complain about it as well as having to see it myself. I've already written scripts to weed gimmick accounts out, I just need to sift through them and make sure I don't pick up any innocents. At this point, dupe accounts have become numerous as well, and I have a gigantic list of those as well. I want you to be well aware using automated voting will result in not only your account deletion and an ip ban, but any of your linked ips. This means if your friends use your computer or vice versa, or your entire college shares the same ip, everyone gets deleted and ip banned. With any luck I'll kill the entire site.
So anyway, back to the new site creator and all its magnificent features.
As you can see from the flow chart, it's a much more intensive process than it is currently (at least from a programming standpoint). New features include:
- the ability to reserve a sub-domain for 24 hours.
- the ability to close your browser or navigate away from the site creator and then come back and pick up where you left off (with a 24 hour expiration as well)
- a nifty new dupe check system that warns you if you've: used a title that's been used previously, used an image/sound or combination that's already been used.
- "Original Content Tuesday": On Tuesdays, users will only be able to upload images and sounds never used before on YTMND.
- Color Picker for the hex inept
- Preloader update: option to auto-resync, automatically will hide site text until fully loaded.
- Live preview window: the ability to change one thing on your site and reload a preview window for easy tweaking.
- New "Classic YTMND" classification: will make for some new content boxes
- The ability for users to mark their own sites NSFW
- Hooks for a feature that's been needed for ages: Alerts. Alerts will allow you to be notified when a friend creates a site, when a certain image, sound or string in a title is used, etc.
As well as a bunch of other junk.

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise
He did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mash
"I'm acutely aware of the plague of dip sh*ts who think they've reinvented funny by commenting and voting the exact same way on every site ever created on YTMND. Not only is this sh*tty from a technical aspect, I'm f*cking sick of hearing people complain about it as well as having to see it myself." ... Rofl.. Max, that was f*cking godly said. hahahahahahaha
Max, I appreciate all of the work you're putting in to make the site better. Sounds like some pretty intense stuff we have coming up. Just don't forget to take breaks if you get frustrated, and just ignore the anti-orange people. It's just fine as a color, better than the fruit orange's color. Also, 150-something.
Some rules look promising (like the new dupe check system, preview window, alerts), but others I just fear could be troublesome. Original content tuesday might kill of some fads, but on the other hand, it may bring in new music (no more epic manuevers). As for gimmick accounts, the best way to take care of them is to look at each one individually and ban them. We'll see as time goes on.
"This means if your friends use your computer or vice versa, or your entire college shares the same ip, everyone gets deleted and ip banned." Max, there must be a better way. I was blocked from the forums last month because more than one person shares my ip address. I feel like it's only a matter of time before I'm wrongfully accused of having alt accounts and am permanently removed from the site.
Other than that, the list looks awesome. I can't wait for the new features. Keep up the great work. :)
Wow. That's a lot of site upgrades. Don't let impatient dipsh*ts rush you max, take your time. If you have a girlfriend/wife/lover, I imgaine that he/she must be very patient being ignored while you run yourself ragged for a bunch of pathetic, pimply-faced maladjusted pre-teens. (My two crappy sites will probaly be downvoted for this, but I like the orange look)
"Original Content Tuesday? Being able to designate "classic" style YTMNDs? Holy sh*t,
this is the greatest thing since the preloader..." Preloader sucks - not for what it does, but for what it caused. That aside, I agree with you. I've been hoping for a while that there would be a spinoff/subsite ("Classic Y" or something) where it's back to basics. Would be cool if there were a size cap on the total file size too, ex. site must be less than 1 meg total between audio and sound.
One more suggestion, if any site that is sponsored get a rating of less than 3.0 for at least 4 hours after sponsorship, it never should be allowed to be displayed on the front page. That way, religious crap and inside jokes won't last long, and sponsoring them again will not bring it back to the front page.
I keep getting overlapping screens, as in, I had to refresh to get this comment box useable, could only see the top part then it went to the comments. Happens on search screens, individual expanded categories of sites/etc. You're likely aware, or it might be firefox, but thought I'd throw it out there.
hmm, I wonder if any revision could solve the issue of "indie"- sites that fall by the way side. Sites under 3.9 are pretty much lost to the ether. Maybe we could have a "User Spotlight" or something that shows like 3 sites at a time. Only pick users with 6 months + membership, and 3.25 average site rating. Dunno, but classic, and stupidy (see "Fishbiscuit") sites just can't grow roots on a sex obsessed instant gratification fad hungry user base... also see my fad comp for big laughs :p
I thought of a different idea for site display. Create something called elite user favorites. Pretty much all the votes in this category goes to users that have at least 15 sites with a rating of 4.00 or better and each site garnering more than 1,000 views each. These users are some of the strongest here. For the favorites that get displayed, at least 10-15 votes consisting of the elite users must be cast (so no inside jokes).
I like the new changes and features are great... but you really need to consider changing the color. I mean, if someone offers me an orange ferrari or a red and white ford taurus, I think we both know what I'm taking. Plus, Ford escorts get better gas mileage. But that's besides the point. The point is that we come here to see the layout, not the sites. Thus, any functionality geared towards viewing the sites is a wasted effort. Doesn't anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
