everything in its right place

After 8 grueling hours of work, the site hardware has been upgraded yet again.
I launched the new master database server last night which has an extraordinary amount of power and should take us well into the future and allow for some awesome new features.
I also tweaked the content server a lot and last night we peaked out at 736mbps.
Read more for technical details.
The new master database server has the following specs:
Dual AMD Opteron 280 (dual core 2.4ghz w/2mb cache)
8GB ECC DDR Ram
2x36GB 15k RPM Ultra 320 SCSI disks in a RAID 1 setup
This server will take over as the master and all replication slaves will now connect to this.
The old DB server:
Dual AMD Opteron 246 (2 Ghz)
4GB ECC DDR Ram
2x74gb 10k RPM drives (with no RAID!)
This server now is the primary replication slave and the server which runs the site list and search.
Now that we have an excess of database power I'm looking for some suggestions as to what data we can pull from the database to provide some new and interesting content. If you have some good ideas of how to pull good sites out of a massive pile of all the data we collect, hit me up with a private message.
Additionally, the designer who made the "star" logo is working on a new layout for the site, I should get some screenshots in the middle of July. Good things are on the horizon.
Cheers!

awesome. suggestion for the site (if its not already in the works, maybe ) make something like a fad category listing, or maybe a genre list that can be put in when creating a site. that'd be the sh*t, I hate when people don't cite their sites properly and I can't find what im looking for, big listing of NSMB pages or Peppers would be good to look through.

Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got.
Taking a break from all your worries, sure would help a lot.
Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you want to go
Where everybody knows your name,
and they're always glad you came.
You wanna be where you can see,
our troubles are all the same
You wanna be where everybody knows
Your name.
The new master database is not all it can be. Get a quad opteron. You can get a quad opteron 852 with up to 32GB of RAM and then 4x36GB 10K RPM scsi for something like $800/month. You are probably paying way higher then that, or you should just buy the hardware and colo it because YTMND isn't going anywhere soon and it would be a return on an investment. By the way I sent you an email about this and I got nothing back.
alternatively you could get something so you dont put all your eggs in one basket, and get something like a dual 2.8 xeon with 6GB of ram and then 3x146GB SCSI raid 5, with around 3TB of bandwidth for ~$250-300/month. That is at the cogent DC and they have $10/mbps. I also know who hosts 4chan, and they have some pretty good prices as well. They offer some 50mbps/100mbps servers. I also want to say i'm not with a company with the above prices. Just trying to help out YTMND as a loyal user.
WOW... 4 gigs of ecc ddr... amazing... im so suprised that YTMND requires such a strong backbone server. why dont you split the processes. one computer for your php/html/apache/ETC and another for your mysql. wait, thats what your already have... i guess. could you tell us exactly how many GiB YTMND takes up as a whole, content only.
I have a suggestion for some fun with database power. I was discussing with a friend just the other day about creating a graphical visualization of the all sites on here. The graph would link sites based on their keywords, and you could visualize fads and how they interace. something like this: http://www.caida.org/tools/visualization/walrus/
About having a drop-down box with fad music: I think it would be a bad idea, because it would have to be updated constantly to reflect new fads and might encourage more lazyness on the part of ytmnd makers. What's the point in giving people this option for fads that have pretty much run their course anyway? I do think it would be a good idea, however, to have the option to choose to include music from another ytmnd, and be able to type the url of that ytmnd into a box. This would save server space and wouldn't directly promote unoriginality, and it would be a more permanent solution.

I really like YTMND-JaTz's suggestion. Maybe have it done so users control (or at least help control it). Let people vote to decide what is or isn't a fad, then vote on individual sites to place them in a fad category. Also (cocks), seeing as YTMND has been around for more than two years, a "YTMND of Yesterday" section on the frontpage could be interesting. Let people see the highest rated YTMNDs created on this day in previous years.
i got a good suggestion for a new feature of this site. could we have it where when i sign on it gives me a hangjob? id like that quite a bit. also could you get it to cook me dinner and but not talk back. also just generally not annoying me would work best. And about cookin me dinner, id prefer it to be on the table when i get home from work. if its not i should be able to punch it. but should that happen the site has to tell everyone it fell down the stairs.... also cocks
Wow - I can really feel the difference ! I'll bet if I put a full glass of red wine on one side of YTMND, and then drop a bowling ball near it, it's like, not a drop would be spilled. Let's see YOUR old site do that ! YTMND was created from the same technology used by NASA. The secret are these patented Memory-foam bubbles, which conform to the exact contours of your body.
