Hi buds,
Just a quick note to let you know I'll be attending ROFLcon again this year. If I can arrange it, I hope to give out some swag there, but I'm not promising anything.
That's all.

Yay! I think this might be the beginning of the end for The Demon in this house.
He is currently, as I am writing, pissing everyone off to the Nth degree. He is now ranting and raving about how spoiled is Blake. While I agree with him, I am not coming to his defense. For one thing, I’ve been down that road and it’s a dead end. Another is because I hate The Demon more than I dislike how Blake has been spoiled rotten. I’m of the opinion when someone has dug themselves a hole and they want to keep digging, there is really nothing you can do for them.
So right now, I am going to sit back and wait to see what happens. There’s nothing I can do.
Well, see ya’ later!

I hate the voting system on this site.
The first 10 votes have too weighted an impact on where a site ends up. A worthwhile site can conceivably never make the front page because a small group of users decide they don't like the site or the user. A couple of low votes and it's buried.
I used to see this happen all the time. Both for "high-effort" and "low-effort" sites, but I see it way more often with "high-effort" sites. There is an annoying trend among some users to shit on "not-funny" sites and chastise the creators for putting effort into their work. I really hate these fucking debates - guess what kids, your MurdarMachene ripoffs and Moon Man sites are "not funny" to other people too. And not all of us think sites have to be "funny" to have value.
There is no effective way for honest users to counter mass downvoters and trolls. The mods are asleep. Sorry guys, but this place is not well moderated, and this "community" needs moderation. It's too easy for people to create alts and downvote others.
In fact, the effort it takes to make a site is completely out of proportion with the ease which a "new user" can one-star a site. It's easier to be negative than positive here, which is why the helpful, generous, and creative users never last as long as the negative people who only come to mock others, feel-self-important, and seek justification for their nonsense by joining with other negative users.
The truth is that 1-star votes have more power than 5-star votes on a site's fate, and the people that wield this power indiscriminately are ruining the site.
1. Get some fucking moderators. There are some good people that actually waste their free time here and would be fine curators of the site. I know you said not to ask about moderators, max, but you know what? I'm asking. This place needs them. Sorry, but you can't just wish away trolls.
max, you've talked about making this site "self-moderated" but I think it would actually be easier on you to delegate the responsibility to others. If you still have some ambition to implement self-regulating mechanics on this site:
2. Add an algorithm to the voting system so that users who tend to "5" or "1" everything gets their votes "down-weighted" over time. Your 10,000th "1" vote isn't as much of a downvote as the first. It wouldn't just be a simple count of "number of 1-votes"; it would compare number of 1-votes to number of total votes and analyze the user's vote spread to determine if someone is a "downvoter" or "upvoter" or someone that only votes "1" or "5".
3. Restrict the voting privileges of new users. Voting should be more of an earned privilege, and less of a lazy entitlement. If new accounts couldn't vote, it would also remove the incentive to create alt accounts.
4. New users can be "fast-tracked" to voting privileges by contributing to the site. The best way would be to have a new user "vouched" by an older user, but you could also set up something that analyzed a user's sites and comments and measured it against some criterion (maybe something like how Featured Users worked). Moderators could also decide to promote an account.
2.) This has been discussed at length both in news posts and on the wiki. I don't want to get into the game of using the behavior of a user, their voting habits, or anything else to change the value of votes. A vote is a vote, and that isn't going to change.
3 + 4) This is something we've discussed in the past as well, but it ultimately punishes new members of the site much more than it would stop alt-voting. Using a time-based gating system would just get people to plan out alts and using an activity-based gating system would end up spamming the site. The easiest way to remove incentive for making alts is by deleting the main accounts of people who make alts to vote, which we've been doing.
There's been some good points made, but when the fuck have you forgotten that the main spectacle never showcased "good" and "funny" sites that anyone across the internet can enjoy?
What sort of malarky have you been deluding yourselves with?
i thought ytmnd is a single meme with it's own dumb universe.
oh, right. i forgot, it's a special place for our special pop culture jokes also special inside jokes and with art.
sorry, you're all only relevant to each other.
ppppptttttttttt
and that's it from me.
When you look back at the successful battles you've had with Dustin Diamond, Ebaum, Sega and Scientology, do you find it ironic that your once (I assume) proud site has been ruined by the very free speech and copyright principles you fought so hard for in the beginning?
When you see the U&C splattered with anti-Semitic/racist moonman sites does it burn you that through it all this is how you're making money off the site, or do you just secretly smile all the way to the bank knowing that you're getting the last laugh on these kids? Is that your little "eff you" back to them?
I have no idea what you want from this site going forward and have no idea why you allow this easy to moderate stuff to continue?
We can debate all day long about different reasons why we all think the site has taken a turn, but surely this part of it is easy.
Are you making that much money off moonman that you just can't bring yourself to shut it down? You seem to keep threatening to wipe these kids out, but never do.
Why?
I keep expecting it to say:

Hey guys, it's me, Moon Man. The fucking subway is running late and last night I fucked your mother and drank her vaginal blood. Also, King Station is closed.
