That's less than it sounds. The government's limit is probably several times GDP before we get in any real trouble. Not even most of the "national debt" is owned by foreigners - it's mostly by other U.S. entities (and almost half of the 'debt' is just shuffling between parts of the federal government).

Anyone with half a brain can tell you that debt is an extremely bad idea. If the guys in the Fed are so smart, how come they couldn't predict this recession? How come Libertarians and fiscal conservatives like Peter Schiff and Jim Rogers did predict the recession?
