Sorry, I'm just annoyed at the high ratings all these sites get. I mean if you ask me a 4.6+ site is the kind that comes along maybe once every 6 months, not the kind of site you get a dozen of in a week. A 4.3 should be maybe once a week.

the intrinsic fault in a voting system such as the one present on YTMND is that it gives rise to two conflicting voting styles. The people who vote as if they are the only one doing so, and will therefore give a site exactly the number of stars they think it deserves, and the people who vote knowing they are one among many, and give a site an extreme vote in order to steer the overall rating in the direction of what they believe it actually deserves.

in a pure, direct democracy, that method would not only be preferred, but necessary in order to maintain... order. But the governance of YTMND voting is not truly a pure democracy. Everyone is encouraged to voice their opinion on a site, true, but the lynchpin lies in the fact that we do not vote whether a site is "Good" or "Bad." There is a spectrum for the ratings, which, unlike having only 2 choices, doesn't lend itself to a majority-wins scenario.
