Thought of this while I was taking my Chinese final the other day. Couldn't get it out of my head. Hope my accent isn't too un-asian, heh heh. Also if you need to know it DOES mean "You're the Man Now Dog"

Awesome edit and a great idea, but are you sure your grammar is right? "Zai" by itself is more of a preposition than the adverb "now," isn't it? Did you mean to say "xian zai"? Also, I'd say "nan" (man) instead of "ren" (person). But what do I know? I'm not a native sinophone or anything... I basically understood it when I heard it, but I'm picky.

Yeah I almost did xian zai to define it more as time, but i didn't want to make it too long either. As for the nan/ren i was 50/50. cuz i didn't want to have to say "nan ren", but yeah good point. When I was done babelfish was able to translate directly back, so I left it.

Good sh*t! I totally understand you wanting to preserve the economy of words; "You're the man now, dog" is short and sweet. Again, it works, I understood it, and now in retrospect, it's awesome. Besides, being a "man" isn't just about having the genitalia of a "nan"... "Ren" has many more connotational virtues attached to it. Think Confucius! So, how long have you been studying Chinese for?

LOL @ LoadMan! Hey, it was my first semester too. I've been studying Japanese and Russian for a couple of years before this and I'm majoring in East Asian Language now. I'm thinking of either getting a law or education degree after this one, and seeing where it takes me. But that's a noble goal you're after, there! Seeing as we're at the same level in Chinese, hit me up some time. Maybe we can help each other out? I'll send you my email in a PM.

I really admire your effort, though "dog" is pronounced more like "go" than "gou" though yes, it is written "gou." :)
